It is hard to find an author that grabs your attention and imagination the way this wonderfully talented Aussie writer does with each book she writes. Well thought out storylines, variety of characters and unexpected surprises galore are part of ever stories. Plus, she has a good sense of humor.
I didn't put this book down until the last page and yes, it's another cliffhanger. There is a lot of emotion and the range includes many. Ms Allan has this genre mastered. I have read all but two or three of her books and I have seen a talented storyteller grow in her skills and her stories just get more powerful, more mesmerizing and always difficult to put down until the last page. 5*
Kept, Book 1 - Although set in Boston, I enjoyed this story by one of my favorite AU authors. The storylines are set up with the day to day life of an American woman and the current journal entries of a 500-year-old British vampire. Toss in a few vampire hunters, best friends and law officers to make a good cast of characters.
The fact that she wants to be a French chef has a few recipes of the base sauces highlighted. Of course, this quickly read, novella length story ends not quite as a cliffhanger but sets up the second book.
Kept, Book 2 - This part is dark and deadly but not graphically gory. There is a massive cliffhanger but getting there is suspense filled and intriguing. It is too easy to slip into book report mode with all the events happening and the emotions running amok.
Ms. Allan does it again bringing a story to life so realistically and mesmerizing that you cannot stop reading. Then too soon, it is the last page and you want more! I contacted the author to review her books and picked up this up through Booksprout. 5*
