A Cut Above the Rest
Dominating the everyday carry, folding pocket knife market, Kershaw creates high-quality, high-performance, exceptional, working tools and knives affordable to all consumers. Kershaw patents and expertly designs award-winning technologies and uses advanced materials to skillfully craft and engineer fast action, durable and reliable knives. Using a wide range of opening and locking systems, handle materials, blade compositions, blade coatings and finishes for a lifetime of performance, Kershaw always chooses appropriate, top notch materials and is dedicated to intensive craftsmanship of hardworking pocketknives, hunting knives, or special collectors’ editions. Kershaw’s advanced technology and innovative design combine to create solid, crafted, reliable knives users are proud to carry.
Kershaw Blur Knives
With a big, slightly recurved blade ideal for multitasking, Kershaw Blurs offer amazing slicing and piercing capabilities good for tackling tough jobs. The Blur family of knives have many different versions from the steels to the handle materials. The same great, useful, powerful blade shape with fierce design offer users consistency and dependability. The low profile pocketclip rests on the frame making it easy to pull from the pocket. For right-handed tip up or tip-down carry, users experience trusted SpeedSafe Assisted Opening, razor sharpness, and corrosion and wear resistance.
Sandvik 14C28N steel is a high-performance steel with increased nitrogen in the formula for excellent corrosion resistance and hardness. The overall highest performing knife steel in the world that still maintains the productivity benefit of being fine-blankable, 14C28N steel is ideal for knife applications which place high demands on edge sharpness, edge stability and corrosion resistance.
Attractive Blade Coating
Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating is often even tougher than the blade steel underneath it. DLC-coated blades offer extra hardness, high corrosion resistance, excellent wear resistance and a low friction coefficient so particles do not easily attach to the blade. DLC coatings display properties similar to a natural diamond that add beauty and attractive shine.
Using a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure.
Secure Locking System
A slimmer and lighter blade locking system, Inset Liner Lock utilizes a sturdy steel plate on the inside of the knife’s handle scales. Riveted into place in a custom-machined cutout on the handle’s interior, the plate provides the strength and security of a locking liner without the weight. Inset Liner Lock reliably prevents blade closure while ensuring conveniently quick, safe blade deployment.
Knives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection.
Aluminum, anodized for color, hardness and additional protection, is very durable, stain and scratch resistant for strong knife handles. Anodizing changes the aluminum’s surface so a porous coating can be applied that will accept a colored dye. Anodized aluminum gives the knife bright, eye-catching, unique colors and provides a nice, hefty, solid feel to the knife without making the knife heavy. Trac-Tec Inserts are rough-surfaced inserts that provide additional friction for a non-slip grip on a Kershaw knife’s handle scales. With extreme gripping capabilities, Trac-Tec inserts feel almost spongy when pressed with a fingertip. The inserts are comfortable and secure in the hand, and the texture is soft enough that it will not scratch or irritate the users’ hands.
Kershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The reversible pocketclip allows user to choose to carry knife tip-up or tip-down or to choose on which side knife carries. The user may select either a preferred tip position or a preferred carry side.
Kershaw’s premier value in re-curved blades showcases effortlessly in the excellent slicing and piercing capabilities of the Kershaw Blur. While both fierce and elegant, the mild S-shaped pattern of the 3.4-inch 14C28N Sandvik Stainless Steel blade serves not merely for looks alone. The slight curvature lengthens the edge of the blade, offering wide angular dimensions and draws the middle of the blade back into the material while the S-curve moves most of the blade weight toward the tip and the concave edge keeps the material from pulling away, avoiding tip overuse, optimizing angle of attack and enhancing cutting power and efficiency. The composition sports a black DLC (diamond like coating) for a hard, sharp blade that will not chip or dull. The knife’s handle is made of 6061-T6 anodized aluminum and features Trac-Tec inserts for strong grip in any condition. Whether for slicing, skinning or defense, the Black Blur is expertly engineered by Kershaw as the perfect fit for every user
The Kershaw Ken Onion Black Blur Folding Knife features a Speed Safe assisted opening design for safe, secure, and easy opening and closing. An ideal knife for everyday use, the knife is equipped with a super sharp 3 3/8-inch 440A Stainless Steel blade with Tungsten DLC black coating. The anodized aluminum handle with Trac-Tec inserts is comfortable to hold and use, and the knife is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Pros: I love the big beautiful, wide blades like this one and the Spydercos even though you sacrifice pocketability. Knife still in great shape after 7 years. Quality construction--never a problem. Deployment mechanism still works like new. Overall couldn't be happier with its knifely characteristics.
Cons: The slight recurve makes sharpening a little more challenging but not a deal-breaker. As others have mentioned, the thumb studs are sharp and scrape against your knuckles when retrieving (it does hurt). Also the textured grips can make your pockets turn inside out before you can get it out. I prefer something a little smaller, thinner, and smoother for an EDC such as the Leek, Chive, or even Gerber STL 2.5, depending on khaki slacks or jeans. Plus I work in a school, and people get a little weird if I pull this thing out around their children <shrug>. (One time, though, I erred on carrying something too small, and my female coworker never let me live down my itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie knife. Not sure why women always feel compelled...)
So, as a result of all these considerations, I do love the knife, but I prefer to keep it lying around where I can just pick it up to use instead of carrying it in my pocket. This knife has been living in the door compartment of my truck for several years now in case I get car-jacked.
Verdict: Highly recommended, but not as EDC
Upon arrival I was a little surprised by the size of the knife. But after a few weeks I have to say, I LOVE THIS THING! Lightweight, excellent grip, lightning fast opening, and perfect size! It's light enough that I forget it's in my pocket yet SUPER tough. I'm not worried about breaking this thing at all. I'm very confidant that this tool will be exactly what I'll need going forward whether i'm in the garage, hunting, camping, or anywhere else.! Absolutely recommend it!
This knife is the most expensive pocket knife I've purchased (even though it's mid-range), but it's fantastic. It opens smoothly and concisely, has a rigid retention with no slop, a smooth blade with a beautiful black coating, and the closing action is butter smooth.
It arrived sharp enough to shave arm hairs and obviously passed the "fingernail test" with flying colors.
The grip is harshly textured, which gives extremely good tactility and grip without causing issues on my hands.
For lefties, the clip is reversible, which is a fantastic feature.
The texturing is so severe that when you insert the knife into your pocket, it abrades your pocket, making it a little more difficult to get clipped than a cheap, untextured knife might, but this is something I'm willing to put up with because the texturing is so good for grip.
I would definitely buy this knife if you're in the market for a mid-range priced EDC knife. I would not buy from Benchmade due to their recent issues with stepping on 2nd amendment rights, although those knives were amazing! Kershaw has outdone themselves with the knife at this price point.
