Kershaw’s popular Leek lineup is now available in a rugged BlackWash finish and already broken-in look. The Leek’s slim, easy-to-carry design with superb cutting capability creates a mighty little pocket carrier. The 3” razor-sharp blade is made with high-performance 14C28N Sandvik steel which holds a good edge and resists corrosion. The modified drop-point blade shape makes for good slicing, and the slim tip gives excellent piercing ability with good detail work capabilities. The BlackWash Leek’s stainless steel handle features SpeedSafe assisted opening for fast-acting, ambidextrous one-handed operation with use of the built-in flipper. A secure frame lock keeps the blade locked open during use, and a sliding Tip-lock ensures the blade will stay closed in transit. The pocketclip can be configured for tip-up or tip-down carry, and the handle is predrilled to accept a lanyard or keychain. The BlackWash Leek is a hard-working, easy to carry folding pocket knife, proudly made in America.

Out of the box the speed safety is over tightened and in the locked position and I was not able to open the blade. I don't have an allen wrench small enough to adjust it, so I pried it open with a screwdriver and open it will remain. I am not able to operate it with my thumb, as shown in the video. My previous Leek did not have this issue.
The blade opens smoothly, but I found that if I open the blade too slowly the locking mechanism does not get a good engagement and if I open it too slowly, it will not engage at all. I plan to apply some gun oil or tri-flow in this area to see if that improves the function. With this type of locking mechanism you should always be aware that it can fail and train yourself to check it. My previous Leek did not have this issue either.
Aside from those two issues, this is wonderful knife and a great value for its price. I recommend the Black Wash finish, it looks as good in person as it does in the photos. The knife is balanced and fits very well in my hand, providing a confident grip. The blade is very sharp and I found with my last Leek that I did not have to frequently sharpen it.
My favorite thing about the knife is its compact form factor. The body is narrow and lightweight. When I put this in my pocket, I forget that I am carrying it, which means I am more likely to carry it - even if I am wearing my lightweight "business slacks", this knife does not weigh on the fabric.
If you're looking for a reliable EDC knife, this is the one.
My wife purchased this knife for me because she thought it looked cool. I had a couple other Kershaws that i liked so she already knew the Kershaw name. I have had that knife for a couple of years now and it quickly became my every day carry knife. I purchased another for a friend. The Leek came out of the box sharp and has maintained its edge well. I have drug this knife through a stone sharpener once just to straighten the edge a little. This knife has cut everything I have needed it for and fits well in the had for carving notches and such in sticks. My favorite part is the extremely sharp point that will push through the skin of just about any animal. I have cleaned multiple squirrels with just this knife to include cutting bone.
Additionally Kershaw has a very good customer service department. I dropped my knife from about 20 feet up on a latter putting up Christmas lights this year and the safety broke. I emailed Kershaw and they sent me a replacement safety at no cost. This Kershaw as well as the other Ken Onion Design Kershaws are made in the USA.
This knife arrived just like the other leeks I have purchased. Shave sharp out of the box and it flocks open super fast and effortlessly. I personally carry the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 but every time I play with the Leek I am a little envious of the assisted opening feature. The first thing I do to all my Leeks is to unlock the safety and then over tighten it so that it can never accidentally lock itself. The safety is a nice feature if you have small kids around and want that added protection against accidents. I choose not to use it though as it is very irritating that it can slip into the locked position at random and then when you pull the knife for use it won't open. I have never had any unexpected opening from the knife with the safety disengaged.
Anyone looking for a great small knife would be hard pressed to find something better than the Leek. Made in the USA.
For this purpose, there isn't a better knife. Quality is absolutely amazing. I can't imagine paying more for any other knife - if you do, it's because you want a fancier metal. Because the quality really can't be beat. RAZOR sharp. This isn't a knife you use as a pry bar. If you're in construction and need something to take a pounding every day, this isn't your knife. For a mid-size, forget it's there knife - doesn't get better for me.
