Diamonds work A+ because they are the hardest material known yet. With this 600 grit diamond rod, you can re-sharpen any edge with like 2-3 swipes. If you do anymore than that, on a already sharp knife, you might ruin it. This is a medium grit rod (600grit). I can sharpen a dull knife very quick with it cause of the diamonds. If you have a knife with D2 or S30v or 154cm or sandvick 14c28n or even 440 steel, those steels are very hard to sharpen but if you already have a V shape and it's just dull, this grit (600) will sharpen it fast.

The grit however doesn't allow for razor sharpness because it is not a fine enough grit but it does make them sharp enought to cut paper like butter. This is a must have Grit (600 grit). Then after this, if you want a polish or prolly razor sharp blade, get a 1000grit diamond rod.

This grit is pretty fine tho, just to be clear, if you rub your fingers on it, it feels almost like nothing is there but it might give your that scratching chockboard feel that is gross lol

This is so small, it is only good for field use. I sharpened a 8inch kitchen knife with it tho. It's just very uncomfortable to use since it's so small. I'd say get a 12" rod or something long cause this is more of a field rod.

The sharpener is very easy to use, there is no guide for the correct angle so you have to be somewhat savy about blades and cutting angles BUT it's much much better than the steel sharpener that comes with most knife sets. It does a far better job than our expensive steel rod sharpener I purchased prior to trying the Kershaw product. I use it for everything from my pocket knife, to razor knife blades, to our large carving knife. It's a diamond hone so be careful because the blade will be sharp when your done. I like it also because it unscrews and the sharpening diamond part slides into the handle and screws into place for easy, compact storage. The only thing I would change on it is: I wish it was a tad longer for the bigger blades. I hate to say it but it even does a better job than my whet-stone, which I never did get the hang of. If your looking for an easy to use knife sharpener that really works well I think you'll like this tool.

This is definitely one of the better knife sharpeners that I've had, even better than my stone set. The diamond coating on this makes the sharpening process extremely quick if you get the angle right. There's no guide or manual or really anything that comes with this to tell you how to use it so make sure to consult the guide that (hopefully) came with your knife to determine the proper angle.

The only negative is the length of the sharpening surface. It's a bit short, which makes it only slightly difficult to sharpen longer blades. I found my 3 3/8th inch (Kershaw Ken Onion Tactical Blur Folding Knife with Speed Safe) blade even a little awkward to sharpen on this, but did get the hang of it. If the sharpening surface were a little longer, this would be THE perfect sharpener. Even still, it's definitely the best one I've used.

i use this everyday. my friends end up stealing it to sharpen their knives. this is a great tool for people who have any kind of knives. i use this for the chefs knife i have and it will get it razor sharp. you must know the angle of the blade though.

For the price it's excellent! It will bring a dull blade up to usable sharpness in a couple swipes. As others have said it isn't a fine enough grit to get a razor nor is it well suited for very long blades. If you want proper kitchen knife or other long blade sharpening/honing get something like an 8+" high grit ceramic stick/block.

I use it for 5" or less pocket knives, xacto blades, carpet/utility knife blades, etc and it works great when you just need that little bump up in sharpness.

My major complaint and the reason for loss of a star is the crap quality threads which came with burs and junk stuck in them. Maybe it just slipped by QC, but with a name like Kershaw I expect better.

I bought this little sharpener to keep snap off razor blades sharp since the work I do with them dulls them extremely quickly. A few swipes over this sharpener and the blades are immediately back to factory sharpness.

Obviously snap off razor blades are not really expensive, but this sharpener means I never have to snap off a piece because it gets dull, and it allows me to use the full length of the blade. Thanks to this sharpener I am still on the original blade that came with my $2 knife after several months of using it.

The Ultra-Tek Blade Sharpener has 600 grit, diamond coated, oval shaft and the handle is made of anodized aluminum. Best of all it only weights 2 oz. Sharpens well and is all you need for touch up in the field.

My first real sharpener. Had great reviews, and was recommended to me by a fellow cosplayer. It works really well, and is very easy to use. I really like that you can remove the sharpener, and put it into the handle, so it doesn't get damaged; also makes it more conpact in my toolbox, which is a plus. I can see how this wouldn't last a terribly long time if you sharpen a whole lot, but I really only sharpen a couple of pocket knives, the random kitchen knife, and my exacto blades. So, for me, it works really well and I definitely recommend it.
