I work as a Fire Investigator and regularly use these in my scene photographs. I carry 4 of them in my camera case because I routinely end up giving one away to fellow investigators after they see them. Make sure you order the "Builder's" version unless you want your scene measurements in 1/10's of a foot !!!!

The picture doesn't give one a sense of how large the digits are on this tape. That doesn't sound like a bad thing but for me it is distracting. I actually have more trouble reading this tape than one that has smaller numbers and graduations down to 1/32". The finest markings are 1/4" so if you want to measure to 1/16" you must interpolate. Buy this only if you are comfortable with making measurements accurate to 1/8". Don't buy this for carpentry work unless you're a really sloppy carpenter.

The tape can be pulled completely out of the body. Alarming the first time it happened to me. However you can easily just push it back in. As others have noted there is no spring retraction for this tape. You must retract the tape by pushing it back. At first I thought this was a problem but with a short tape (6-1/2') it's not really an issue.

Bought this to use for crime scenes. This is the "inch" version incase there was some confusion with the other tape being sold by the same company.
Very nice easy to read numbering, light weight, and doesnt auto-retract.

This is a special purpose measuring tape with numbers large enough to be seen in a photo. You can also pull out the tape completely and it becomes stiff; that's why it's called a pocket rod. Ideal as a portable scale for photographic documentation.

I have used this for geology fieldwork, and my colleagues were impressed. The tape is almost 1" wide, and is rubberized. Unfortunately, nobody had the metric model in stock, so I had to get the less scientific inch/feet model. It has a scale on both sides; inches in black and feet in red on one side, and inverted colors on the back side of the tape.

These are industry standard, and do the job. Just note that they come in feet divided into 1/10 ft (which surveyers use) and inches. Dont make the mistake I made and find out your feet have 10 "inches" in them. Ha. Good Product.

I needed a measuring device that would not glare with the flash from the camera. This handy tool is perfect in every way.

- Large readable numbers for accurate measuring.
- Does not retract on you, you have to manually push it back into the holder.
- Very good quality - will last as long as you will most likely need it.

An excellent product for using in photographs of equipment or locations to document dimensions. Very popular with various types of technical and forensic investigators. Will stand or lie rigidly when removed from case. When purchasing take care to choose between the 2 different models that come in either feet & inches increments, or feet and 1/10 foot increments. Since length is only 6-1/2 feet, should be used in conjunction with a longer standard tape measure for larger dimensions

This item is perfect for those of us who need glasses to read anything. The numbers are easily seen and read. It is also useful when having to photograph items and a scale or reference size is needed. It will stand on it's own.... A great tool to have !!
