This machine in particular doesn't have any of the fancy electronics that the Keurig in my office has... No temperature settings and no digital display. But what it does have is super simplicity. Fill the water up either at the sink or by pouring water into the top, turn it on, put the pod in, optionally press the strong button and press a size. The next cup is just the pod and size selection. If the sizes aren't lighting up, just open and close the pod door again (chances are you put the pod in before it was ready). Really it doesn't get designed more simply than that. I really appreciate that this one has the 12oz option so I can fill my 16oz togo cups with enough room for milk and splashes before I hit the road. My cup fits in perfectly, but if you have a larger tumbler, you can remove the drip tray and it should fit even your big Yeti cup (although you'll probably want to use 2 pods for that).
As for the size, it's pretty close to perfect. I would like the water reservoir to be a little bit bigger when I have a house full of coffee drinkers (for those times a unit with the K-Carafe would also be nice), but for my typical one to two people getting their morning cup, it's perfectly sized to need a refill before the water goes stale. This also makes the footprint very counter-top friendly. Finally this machine seems a little noisier than other Keurigs I've uses when doing it's doing its start-up boil... Not loud, but it is noticeable. Overall though, I can tell it's a winner because I haven't had to refill the water my little Verisimo in days.
Does this new K-Select model perform as good as the classic Cuisinart SS-700? Yes! The pod holder jaws have a nice luxurious feel when they open and close (unlike the newer Cuisinart SS-10 which feels like junk). The unit has a nice sleek design that hides away on the counter and does not draw attention to itself.
I love the Strong brew feature. From now on I will only buy K-Cup machines that have this great feature, since I like my coffee stronger than the watery brews of most of the single serve coffee makers.
The only negative is that the water reservoir is somewhat small and I have to make frequent refills. I wish that the water reservoir was double or triple the size (otherwise I would give it 5 stars).
Here are some photos from unique angles, with some close-ups of the needles that pierce the pods.
