I am a writer because I write. It's a bromide I heard as a young man that turned out to be true. As a writer, I write a great deal more than is ever read. My best work is seldom published and my worst work never is. Most of my published work is nonfiction, but I prefer fiction where I can rupture the boundaries of conventional narrative. I try to be more formulaic and mainstream, I really do, but I have a dickens of a time keeping my mind inside the lines.
