Novelist Tom Corcoran has followed the footsteps of his fictional character, Alex Rutledge, to create 400 color pictures for this forty minute DVD. Rutledge, the continuing character in the Corcoran mysteries, shares with the author a love of the camera and a fascination with Key West. The program is backed by the acoustic guitar of John Frinzi and steel pans of John Patti. Their soundtrack perfectly fits the scenery and laid back mood of the island. If you appreciate the books of Tom Corcoran, you will enjoy seeing dozens of locations he has chosen for crimes, meetings, meals, romance and law enforcement actions since he began his series in 1998. All of the DVD color photographs were taken since 2007 with digital Kodak, Canon and Nikon cameras. If you enjoy the warm, tropical light of Key West, its unique nautical heritage, classic architecture, foliage, beaches, hangouts, vehicles and streets, you will find it all here. The funky and the glamorous. Famous landmarks and hidden treasures. Even a few sunsets, though Tom concedes that, with those, nature does more work than his camera.
About the Actor
Tom Corcoran bought his first serious camera in a Duval Street shop in 1974. He taught himself to use his new gear by wandering Key West on foot or bicycle. He wound up documenting the island he had made his home. Not only did Tom learn about films, lenses and lighting conditions, but he gained knowledge about the island that he might not have found without his photo curiosity. Many of those early scenes, shot from the 1970s through the late 1990s, appeared in Key West in Black and White, a book published in 2007. Tom also photographed Jimmy Buffett for a half dozen record album covers, now CDs, plus several songbooks, sheet music and publicity packages. A relaxing hobby became a welcome vocation.
