There are rubber stops at both ends of travel ( fully closed and fully opened only). The action is smooth.
This slide is expensive as far as slides are concerned, but you get what you pay for. It is heavy duty, but extends silky smooth without any side play or rattling.
The width of the key board tray is only limited by the width of opening; this slide will easily handle the weight of a 12" x 48" board if needed.
7 ball bearings on each side combined with 1/16" thick steel construction insure a lifetime of durable use. It is finished in a nice powder coated matte black. The heigth is 2" adustable for fat legs or personal heigth prefernce. 2 black rubber ends protect your legs from any sharp edges. It locks and unlocks easily in the closed retracted position, but does not lock in the open position.
Overall this is great cabinet slide that I would buy again. I can only fault the ommission of open position lock as it sometimes wants to retact when I am typing.
TIP: To avoid stripping your screw heads or damaging your desk, drill pilot holes about 1 mm short of the screw length for all of the screws (tray and desk). A 5/64 drill bit worked perfectly, and that allowed me to use a screwdriver without too much effort. FYI, I was working with hardwood in a pretty tight space, and this made all the difference. Not one stripped screw head.
Great news is that even though this is the hardest keyboard brackets I've ever installed...they seem to be the best quality. Very smooth and mine do seem to lock into place (I think I read in the questions someone said there's didn't). Also the plus side of the mounting brackets not coming off is that this is a closed-system...so your keyboard tray isn't going to fall out on you like I have had happen before with cheaper brackets. Overall I like it and would recommend it. I used it to install a 28x12" tray.
If you measure as accurately as possible with some common sense, I don't see anyone going wrong with this product. Like any other slide, if not aligned properly, it can give you problems. Totally, not the fault of the manufacturer. The build quality, to me, seems heavy duty. It comes with 8 screws. Some of the holes on the mounts are oval, a very nice feature also for having some micro-adjustment options.
One room for improvement, IMHO is...I wish the screw mounts that go under the board extended more. The center of the hole is only 3/8 of an inch from the edge of the board your screwing down. It's just too close to the edge of the board for comfort. At least over 1/2" would have been nice.
Overall, I am very, very happy with this product because I now have 36 inches by 12 inches of extra space under my table.
