Keyforge is a great card game that comes with premade decks. This set comes with more, but my only complaint is you must go online to grasp the entire rules because it doesn't give a full-size book. Each deck is random and pre-made allowing for a balance that destroys the concept of paying for the best deck. Easy to learn, advanced cohesion strategies.

Keyforge: Call of the Archons is just a great game. Much simpler than Magic the Gathering, it's a deck building game without the deck building since every deck is pre-assembled. The decks are assembled by an algorithm which ensures that each is playable and that each has a couple of rare cards as well as some uncommon ones.

The starter set comes with two unique decks (more on this below), plus two learning decks that are common to each starter box. If you've played a game like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon you can easily dispense with the starter set and just buy however many unique decks you want. Beginners may want to go with the starter set and to watch a "how to play" video on the internet.

The goal of the game is to be the first to craft three keys. Keys are crafted from amber (spelled aember in the game). To craft a key, you need to have 6 pieces of amber at the beginning of a turn. Once you learn the game, a typical game will run about half an hour.

Every deck will have 12 each of cards from three different "houses" (factions). On your turn, you declare which faction you are playing that turn. Then you can only play cards from the faction you declared. You can bring out a creature to do battle or reap amber or activate a special ability. You can play an instant action. You can set up a powerful artifact. Half the fun is learning what combinations your deck offers and how to best set them up.

Your deck will also have a unique and funny name that will not appear on any other deck of Keyforge. It's a lot of fun opening a deck and learning what silly name it has.

Over time you will learn how to play your deck and adapt it to whatever type of deck you find yourself playing against. Eventually, you will learn all the cards in the game (since there are only 72 total) and you will get better with your deck(s).

In short, this is a great game that is pretty easy to learn but at which you can just keep getting better. A lot of fun and very replyable.

This set strangely doesn't include the complete rule book. You get a summary rule sheet, two learning decks, some tokens and 2 randomized booster decks. You can use your own tokens for damage, Aember, power and stun, and keys. Go straight for the booster decks and download the rules from FFG's website. Fantastic game, strangely lacking starter set.
