Eve moved to Manhattan to start a new life and explore her desire of being a submissive. With no family or friends, she innocently trusts the wrong person when interviewing as a training submissive. Now physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by the evil Master Phillip she knows there is no end to her nightmare.
Jack is an artist and a Dom. He longs for the special relationship between a Dom and sub but has never found a woman that would be a perfect match for him. Thanks to a longtime friendship with Charles, Jack becomes a Keyholder an exclusive group that caters to Doms and subs.
When Charles's sub Nora findings a distressing message for help, Jack finds Eve who has been starved and beaten. Thankful when Jack rescues Eve, she only feels safe with Jack. Drawn to her, Jack refues to leave her side. But can Eve put the darkness behind her to heal and become a submissive? Will Jack see her as something other than a broken woman?
This was a great read. There were times it seemed to drag a little and the scenes that the Doms/subs had started to feel clinical. I would like to read a little more emotion during the scenes and not just the technical aspects.
I loved the support and friendships Eve developed after she got rescued. The Keyholders really stepped up and took Eve under their wings. I hope there are more Keyholder stories in the future, especially Harry's!
I loved how the author clearly shows the difference between sadistic abuse and consensual BDSM. The scenes between Eva and her abuser in the first part of the book were hard to read, but these were contrasted really well with the loving scenes between Charles and his submissive Nora. The BDSM scenes throughout the book were really well written, especially those between Jack and Eva. I also really enjoyed the games and competitions between the Doms and Subs, they were fun to read and lightened the mood nicely.
The characters in this book, both the main characters and the secondary ones, are all complex and really well written. Eva is absolutely amazing. She went through a horrific ordeal at the hands of a monster, but was strong enough to survive and is determined to flourish under Jack's care. What can I say about Jack? I love him! He's a caring, loving Dom who has been looking for his perfect sub - and he has found her in Eva.
The Keyholder is one of the best books I've read this year. It's an emotional, raw, suspenseful story that kept my attention from start to finish. Five stars!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
Jack McQuade was new to the city but was looking forward to fitting in to his new home and getting acquainted with the local D/S community. Nora and Charles embodied all the loving, positive aspects of the lifestyle and he couldn’t help but want what they had. Introducing him to the Dungeon they were affiliated with, Jack’s wish seemed to have been heard. Not everyone in the lifestyle had a healthy approach to the dominant/submissive relationship and Eva Sandler was a victim of just such a person. Nora was instrumental in rescuing her and Jack, enthralled from their first meeting, wanted to be a part of her recovery and future.
"That bastard had marked her, both physically and emotionally, but he hadn’t broken her. It was up to Jack now, as her Dom, to reinforce her strength, and bring out the full submission she longed to give him."
This was a beautiful romance while also a clear window into the dominant/submissive lifestyle. Jack was clearly an alpha male but one that truly cared for his friends and for Eva. While Eva was the victim of a crime she was not a victim herself. She was strong and despite being physically and mentally abused still believed in the good of the people who found her. I loved the dynamic between all the characters as they clearly cared about each others well-being and supported however they could. Despite the seriousness of the situations the story managed to be an uplifting one that left me with warm fuzzies at the end. Another great read!
