This product is now available in my Buffalo Minnesota Wal Mart 28oz for $6.88
It appears Keystone is now working with WalMart locations in more states
I believe preppers are asking WalMart managers to stock this product
This review is geared toward those who are contemplating canning your own meat vs buying it from Keystone. Many of us don't have the time to do all the work involved; buying meat, cutting up, canning equipment, time, cleanup, etc. Maybe it would work if you had a bigger group or have a lot of spare time.
Pros of doing it yourself...
1. Types of meat and USDA grading are determined by you
2. Costs much lower than pre made
3. Larger groups lower costs and quick efficiency to make numerous batches
Cons of doing it yourself...
1. Over cooking
2. Under cooking and health risks associated with an unsterile environment
3. Start up costs of canning equipment
4. Time and labor intensive
If you do it yourself and store long term, wait one year, then send in a sample to a lab for testing.
I bought this can as part of ongoing discussions of long term food sustainability and palatable flavor in my ASSAULT WEAPONS prepper group :) pew pew pew
Keystone makes three sizes of canned meats consisting of beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ground beef in 14.5 oz and 28 oz. The 50 oz can is specifically for beef and chicken with broth. The can I received was produced in January 2013. Less than one month from this review. The label says "No Water Added". But when I shook the can, I clearly heard water. Only two ingredients listed on the label: Beef, Sea Salt. Did they add broth? Waiting for the prepper group to get together for full review. Will update when we open and taste.Read more ›
Other reviewers have said it's cheaper at "****art" or wherever, I don't know, my local one doesn't have it. I'm VERY happy with this and will be buying/eating/storing more.
