This was a a candidate for best picture... ever made. The blu ray is cleaned up pretty good. You know the basic premise. JCVD character in this might have the greatest movie brother in history; thankfully they've included a throw away piece of dialogue to explain why one is American and the other isn't. This is a true Canon film - watch it and you'll love it. I've watched it 9 times in the last 2 days. I'm considering quitting my job so I can just keep watching it.
Even though it's not a sequel to Jean-Claude Van Damme's star-making martial arts film "Bloodsport" but it's still a great movie. Unfortunately, it was Van Damme's last Cannon film and it was his best one. Van Damme plays Kurt Sloane, a young man who travels to Thailand with his brother Eric. When Eric was crippled by Tung Po (a villain similar to Chun Li of "Bloodsport"), Kurt vows revenge and learn Muay Ti from a martial arts master named Xian. During his training, Kurt have time to romance Xian's cute & beautiful niece Mylee and there was the bar scene where he dances with two hot babes while he's still drunk. In the fight against Tung Po, Kurt have to fight in a loincloth which is not as similar to Raquel Welch's loincloth from "One Million Years B.C."
"Kickboxer" have been one of my favorite Van Damme's movies.
Not as good as Bloodsport, but still a very good early Van Damme film. Its a predictable "Rocky" type plot, but still good action & fight scenes. I only gave 4 stars tho bc parts of the backdrop & sets seemed fake, almost homemade even. Perhaps bc movie is so dated, I dunno. Or maybe bc the Blu Ray quality transfer is so good you can tell the movie was an early low budget film, hence the datedness & recognizing low quality props & sets. That said, it's still enjoyable movie to watch overall & Van Damme doesn't fail to deliver. Price was also too good to pass up for Blu Ray... Thanks Amazon!

This review is for the blu-ray transfer--the picture quality, sound quality, etc.--not for how good the story or acting is, or not. "Kickboxer" has a solid HD picture, with reasonably accurate colors (as with the flesh tones, for example), vivid colors, and it's fairly sharp. And this is a 1989 film. The audio is excellent. I'm relatively pleased with this purchase, which is an upgrade to the DVD I already owned. If the flesh tones were more accurate, as in this film's better-transferred cousin, "Bloodsport" (blu-ray), I'd be happier.
There are no extras with this blu-ray, but, yes, it does have a menu!
This is the best we've seen this movie, and it's a solid, if not spectacular, HD picture.

Perfect picture quality on bluray!-I have this on DVD and was never impressed with the picture quality and so when I saw it for sale on amazon on bluray I quickly ordered it when it was an affordable price!-I was not disappointed when I watched the new bluray, the picture quality is amazing for such an old film, well worth upgrading to bluray;thier was no bonus features but that didn't bother me!-its also UNCUT being 97 minuets.(the previous DVD was only 94 minuets)Van Damme fans must buy this bluray asap, its a must have.
Kick boxer has to be one of the greatest movies of Van Damme. This movie will always be my favourite. It is region free and it will play in the UK.Now the Blu Ray quality is just amazing. It looks so good and very colourful. Some dots come on screen now and then understandable due to age of the movie but wont effect the movie's amazing quality. Its simple just get it.
I was dubious about ordering as I couldn't see anywhere in the list that it was a region B disc (or region free!) and the seller didn't respond to my email request so I took a chance and ordered the film. It is a region B disc so all good, picture quality is excellent and the sound is amazing on 5.1! A quality purchase even though I took a risk

I ordered the Blu-ray 2 weeks back and it arrived yesterday. I was kinda worried as Amazon reviews and Blu-ray.com stated that it was a bad transfer but trust me it looks great on Blu-ray don't be put off just order it. The only problem is the audio but that's not a big problem considering it has good picture quality 10 times better then the god awful DVD.
this has to be one of the best martial arts movies ever made, second only to bloodsport. if you have not seen this film before then you really need to, the storyline behind the fighting is great as well
