For the sale price, it's decent but I would be livid paying full price for this. It's peeling on many edges, there was a dent in the wood, and the top doors to the attic do not close properly. We just took them off. I don't see this castle lasting for a while. I guess they do not make doll houses like they used to.
One thing that I love about this dollhouse is that it’s not the same old obnoxious pink that all dollhouses seem to be these days. It’s made of the same type of wood used for toy blocks, probably birch. When the house arrived on my doorstep, I was surprised at how light and small it was. I thought maybe they had sent me a miniature house by mistake, but don’t worry it’s all in there! The dollhouse is taller than my 5 and 6 year-old girls. They love it.
I only have a few complaints. First, and most importantly, the stairs drive me crazy. I think they should have made them permanent fixtures, and not something that rests on the ledge of each floor. The constant replacing of the stairs after they fall results in peeling at the edges. The stairs to the second floor are very awkward because they aren’t flush with the ledge. The instructions indicate that the two posts included are meant to be swapped out at the bottom… Meaning, you don’t place the second post at the top. I included a picture to show how it doesn’t fit if you do. Personally, I just thought this was a confusing aspect because one post would have sufficed.
My second complaint is that although this house is intended for 12” dolls, the dolls can’t lie down completely in the bed or sit down completely in the tub.
And lastly, the very pretty and ornate clock closes too tightly. Within the first hour of giving this to my girls, the hinge on the right broke.
Overall, this house is very beautiful with a couple minor flaws. Now that we’re getting past the holiday season, my advice is to be patient and wait for a sale. It’s worth closer to $100 than it is to $175.
