Carefully designed and tested to detect CO concentrations in a residential environment, the Kidde KN-COPP-B is a battery-operated CO alarm that continuously monitors CO levels, even during power outages when many CO incidents occur. Like all Kidde CO alarms, the KN-COPP-B includes the most accurate sensing technology available, the patented Nighthawk electrochemical sensor.
For easy operation, this alarm includes a snap-on cover that gives immediate access to the battery and a safety lockout feature that makes it difficult to close the cover without the battery being installed correctly.
About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer
The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.
Installing a CO alarm like the KN-COPP-B ensures that you'll know immediately when CO levels have reached an unsafe point, giving you time to leave the premises.
Easy-to-Read Backlit Digital Display Shows CO Levels
The KN-COPP-B is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its backlit digital display. This display clearly shows current levels of CO--from 30-999 ppm--that the unit has detected and stored, and updates every 15 seconds to give you an indication of any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The KN-COPP-B will also detect and store concentration CO levels as low as 11 and up to 999 ppm with its peak-level memory display.
For added convenience, pressing the peak-level button turns the backlight on so it's easy to see readings in the dark.
Test/Reset Button and Low-Battery Indicator
Designed to be user friendly, the KN-COPP-B includes features that make it easy to verify that the alarm is working properly. First, a test/reset button lets you confirm that the circuitry is functioning normally, and will also immediately silence an alarm. And when the battery is nearing the end of its cycle, a low battery "chirp" will sound, so you know it's time to make a replacement.
The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-B is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

After a few years in the house, my neighbors actually died in their sleep as a result of a crack in their wall heater ventilation. This was a wake up call to me, as I have the same wall heater. The kicker... when the family members cleaned out the house, they found two carbon monoxide detectors in a drawer... still in the packaging.
Needless to say, I plastered my house with these (overkill, I know) and really liked the LCD display on this one.
It was yet another year or so later when my daughter (2yrs old at the time) and I were hanging out at the house and I had just put her down for a nap. Feeling sleepy myself, I decided to take a nap on the couch. An hour later, I was awakened to the alarms. I had a headache and was feeling very tired. Our house was at very dangerous levels and I can honestly say that if that alarm had not gone off, my daughter and I would Not have woken up.
-With the LCD readout, I was able to monitor and determine when the house was safe to return and continue to monitor levels in different areas of the house.
I am forever grateful to this little device!!! I highly recommend it, and can't stress enough how important these are to have!!! -Saved me and my daughter's lives-
Some people have posted reviews saying that the alarm was going off constantly right after they got the detector so they returned the unit. Mine was doing the same thing so I contacted Kidde support and was advised that the detector goes through a self-test process including several simulated alarms with CO "detection in the 200-300ppm" range before it resets the display to zero and begins functioning normally. I don't know why this information isn't in the manual that comes with the detector since it would help eliminate the confusion for new owners. My detector went through the alarm process a half dozen times before it finally stopped, but it did settle down after I let it sit and make noise for about 10 minutes and it has been functioning normally ever since.
A caveat is to change the batteries annually or you will be woken up in the middle of the night with a beeping and wonder where it's coming from. It's eerie since it is so intermittent that you may have trouble finding it if you have numerous smoke alarms, etc. Since we have both local and mnitored alarms, it took awhile at 3 AM to find the culprit. Just a word to the wise...and to avoid a "treasure hunt" in the middle of the night. And tha's if you have replacement batteries too!
This has held up wonderfully and I've only had to replace the batteries a handful of times.
The machine chirps at you when the batteries are on their way out so you have ample time to replace them.
The back has 2 areas where you can insert hooks and hang to your wall.
Great to have not only for a single or family home, but ideal if you run any sort of vacation rentals or similar.
These things should be as common as fire alarms are, after all, you can see smoke and fire, but carbon monoxide is invisible.
Overall a great system that lasts for seven years and even if it needs to be completely replaced it is still a good deal.
