4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 75 ratings

Pursuing this elusive heiress will be the ultimate temptation. . .

Lady Elizabeth Shield is used to saving herself from trouble. And even if dashing private inquiry agent Dougal Alexander just rescued her from white slavers, she's definitely not returning to her stifling aristocratic life and unsuitable suitors. Not when there are other women in danger—and a secret promise to keep in Edinburgh. But outwitting Dougal's tactics to return her to London and her family will be easier than staying away from his intoxicating kisses. . .

He's a baron's second son accustomed to making his own way and uncovering the truth. Now Dougal must keep Lady Elizabeth close for her own protection, but her spirited wiles are proving scandalously irresistible. His most difficult case yet will be showing her that he's everything she truly desires—and that love is the greatest of adventures. . .

"Before I realized it, the unusually strong and well-developed characters of
The Kidnapped Bride had sneaked up on me and captured my full attention. This is one of the best shorter books I have ever read." --Delle Jacobs, author of Lady Wicked

This book continues to show Heather Hiestand's great ability to write another great book. This book had more mystery type feel to it then the others in the series. One comment I have is that I would have enjoyed the book being a bit longer. Perhaps more information at the end. How did the brothers react? Did the family join in the celebration? A few more details (at the end) would have finished the book with a more completed feeling.

WooHoo! Redcakes #4

I jumped for joy when I saw this up for review, I love this series and it's mix matched couples and sweet happily ever after's. Even as short as this book is it was full of stuff mistaken identity, kidnapping (DUH! the tile) love before marriage, abandoned babies, jumping to conclusions, and quick thought up lies to protect reputations. A very fulfilling story.

In the late Victorian era the Redcake family is just as successful as ever and everyone is happy well not everyone. In the last book the young Lady Elizabeth Shield ran away presumably to Scotland to force marriage on the man she chased after. He was having non of it so she became his maid-of-it-all. The family has hired Dougal Alexander to find her and the man she ran off with, who is a thief he made off with a bunch of jewels. Well Dougal finds him but not Lady Elizabeth it isn't until he is down in London and sees both of Lady Elizabeth's brothers that he realizes he has seen her before and rushes back to Edinburgh before it's to late. Well it is just before he could get to her white slavers kidnapped her. Dougal saves the day and contacts her brothers. Elizabeth is scared to go back for fear of her reputation and prepares her self mentally for finds work and staying in Scotland to take care of the baby she took in. Never fear he brothers are smart and soon convince her to go back. But Dougal has fallen in love with her and screws up his chances, or did he?

Short, but it does not take away from the excellence I have come to love about this series.

Not as much as others in this series.

I have enjoyed reading this series and was delighted with this story. When Lady Elizabeth disappears, she is thought to be kidnapped and her brother Hires a detective to find her. Should be easy since she is used to being waited on and living in luxury, so why is Douglas Alexander having such a hard time? I believe you will enjoy this book, and the others in the Redcakes series.

This is book 4 in the Redcakes series.

Dougal Alexander has been sent to find Lady Elizabeth Shield. After a year of looking for her, he has finally tracked her down. Before he can collect her and take her back to her family, she is taken by white slavers and he must rescue.

Elizabeth is thankful that Dougal has saved her from the slavers, but she is not going back to her family. She doesn't belong there and they will never accept the baby she has taken as her own.

Will Dougal get Elizabeth back to her family or will their time together convince them both that they need something different than they thought?

This was an enjoyable short read. I was still just as confused as to who was who during the story as I was when I read His Wicked Smile (I must find time to read the other books in the series!!!)

I liked that Elizabeth wasn't afraid to get out of her comfort zone (a pampered young miss) and get a job to support the baby that she had taken in as her own. Definitely more depth to her than other girls in her position in life. I liked Dougal too. He liked what he did and he wasn't ashamed to work for a living.

If you are looking for a quick enjoyable read, this is the book for you!!

Thanks go to Kensington Books via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

I wanted to know more about the adventurous Lady Elizabeth, mentioned off and on in previous Redcakes books, and I got it! If I have any complaint for this, it's that it was too short and I had too many questions left unanswered -- like what happened after the happy ending?!

I love historical romances and this book did not let me down. The characters were wonderful and the romance was fantastic. I can't wait to read more in this series.

This is one of the most adventuresome short stories I have come across. Lady Elizabeth Shield truly has an amazingly advanced personality for a woman of her station and time. I admit to feeling a little out of the loop and wished I'd read her brothers' stories first but I was still able to follow along the enjoyable story. This story takes place a little later than most of the historicals I've read lately and it was a little startling to have some of the more modern inventions mentioned but the author's use of vivid details and matter-of-fact description brought the time period to life for me. I truly lost my heart to the stoic private detective and greatly envied the heroine. I loved the serious matters addressed in this story and would love to see the subject matter revisited n future stories. I would also love to see the hero's brother find the right partner as I believe he is truly in need and deserving of it. This is a swift read and if you like your stories with an adventurous twist this is a good choice.

A shorter story about Lady Elizabeth and how she craves a different life. She runs away to Scotland and her two brothers hire agent Alexander to find her and bring her home. She is not so keen to be found.
Looking forward to the next story in the Redcake family. I like the way the stories link in. :-)
