This is a neat toy, especially on a windy day! It works well and produces hundreds of bubbles within seconds, but be prepared to hand over that leftover bottle of bubble solution along with a wand after the "new has worn off" with the bubble machine. And even though she doesn't want to sit and stare at it for long, she does ask for her bubble machine a lot.
Just buy regular bubble solution at the store for $1. One 16 oz. bottle lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. The inexpensive stuff works well.
NOTE: Do not let your kids walk around with it, the bubble solution is NOT confined and will spill everywhere (from the front and the back where the fan is). Actually, I keep the back end a little higher than the front in order to prevent the liquid from spilling to the back. Also, don't overfill because the solution will find it's way out one way or another.
This is battery operated ONLY (my previous one was AC or battery). Very convenient for placing anywhere you want, but make sure you have 4 C batteries when it arrives so your kids aren't disappointed about not starting it immediately;) DOES NOT COME WITH BATTERIES NOR BUBBLE SOLUTION.
I've now been through two of these - the first one was DOA - popped batteries in, filled with bubbles, turned it on and nothing happened. Big disappointment for all the kids at our birthday party.
But I know these things happen sometimes, so I returned it and Amazon shipped out a new one. At first, the second one seemed to work fine - lots of bubbles shot out quickly, delighting the kids. However, I immediately noticed a HUGE design flaw which I'm sure is responsible for a lot of the issues you read from others here as well. There is no 'separate compartment' for the bubble solution in this machine - the bubbles are poured into a very shallow basin in the front, which is only separated from the motor by a very small ridge in between the basin and motor. So even the slightest tipping of the machine at virtually any angle will cause bubble solution to pour back into the guts of the machine, and the handle on top makes it almost irresistible for a small child to pick it up and carry it around. Once the bubble solution spills into the motor compartment, forget it, it's over.
My SECOND bubble machine only lasted 3 uses before just completely dying, although it did somehow manage to burn through a full set of new batteries in the time it worked, which is a curious issue in and of itself. Now it's just landfill fodder.
Seriously folks, stay away from this thing. It's so poorly designed that if you roll the dice and buy one, you're just hoping pure dumb luck will keep it working long enough to be worthwhile. It is destined to fail - it's not if, but when.

I bought this for my daughter's birthday party and it broke the first time we tried to use it. It seems great in theory - I'm assuming ours was just defective.Published 11 months ago by Cherie
