Update: One of the plastic lids cracked after about a year of hard use but I'm happy to find that replacement lids are available on Kids Konserve's website at a very reasonable price even with shipping.
I did a lot of research before ordering these. I wanted a stainless steel food container that was leak-proof and did not contain BPA. It was no easy task finding such a product. But these fit the bill; they are safe, convenient, durable, and attractive. We have them in all sizes, and also have the tiny ones with stainless steel lids (those are not leak-proof, but perfect for dry snacks). If you are thinking about getting these but don't like the price, just consider how long they are going to last (they are unbreakable!) and how much better than the competition they are.
Having said that, I like these containers a lot since I'm trying to stay away from plastic containers for my kids' school snacks. The size is perfect for a snack and the style is cute. However, the lids don't feel very secure and I end up using a rubber band to make sure they stay put in my kids' lunch boxes.
He takes a larger all-stainless steel container (not leak-proof, but works perfectly well: Stainless Steel Bento Box Food Container: ECOlunchbox Oval, 2 Piece Set) plus one of these for fruit or yogurt. These were the only acceptable choice that I found because the main part of the container is stainless steel.
The Kids Konserve containers say they are free of BPA, phthalates, PVC and lead.
The company states that this product is "responsibly made in China". This addition of "responsibly" seems to be the new trend. In my opinion, if you really want to be responsible, don't go to China to make your products and people will trust you more. I was curious to know what they mean by that, so I wrote them an email. This is the response that I got from the company:
"Thank you for your interest in Kids Konserve and for reaching out to us. Our products come from places that meet all the government standards. Also all of our products are tested by independent 3 party labs that test our products to make sure they are what we say they are. On our webpage we have a section called commonly asked questions that will state the materials used in each of our products: [...]"
So "from places" doesn't seem a very straightforward way to admit that it's from China, but anyway.
Over all: it's a good size (8 oz.Read more ›
