After purchasing Kikkerland's keychain-flashlight owl (ASIN: B0042RVAHO), which also lights-up & "hoots",I decided I just had to own this pen as well.
I received it today --right on time-- and in my preferred colour choice of "blue". Since they are available in both brown and blue, and the colour is chosen for you, I just want to thank the person who packaged mine... you made someone very happy today! :-)
As an avid collector of owls and pens, I am so pleased with this item that I just ordered a second one.
The packaging states that the battery cannot be replaced --- a real shame!
However, I noticed that the ballpoint ink refill can be. It appears to be compatible with the screw-in "Parker"-type refill, which is readily available at most office supply stores.
As for the light-up eyes, and that infamous "hoot"... as noted in other reviews, the eyes do light-up very brightly with 2 blue LEDs.
Re: the "hoot"- well... bear in mind this isn't an Audubon nature toy w/realistic sound! To my ears the sound is less a "hoot" but more a cross between a miniature hawk & a sick, baby bird! LOL! While it is an odd sound, it isn't unpleasant, and seems to add to the product's "entertainment" value.
