In his book Civilization and its Discontents, Sigmund Freud address the tension between man's individual aggressive instincts and civilization's interest in social harmony. This idea is reflected here as the gentleman's umbrella meets the warrior's sword. When today's refined man grasps the umbrella's handle on the commute to the office, he becomes the ninja. Comes with shoulder strap.

PS The handle is molded black plastic - there's a raised design but it's hard to see. I highlighted the filigree with metallic gold nail polish and colored in the "gems" with more colored metallics. Looked pretty cool!
So I don't know why any moron would expect a great quality umbrella and REAL sword hilt for $20... and even though it isn't a real hilt this thing is frickin' awesome. The umbrella itself is great quality!
Got it for my boyfriend since he plays lots of swords-y video games and he loves it. People in his office think it's great, too (so he says). I think I might get one for myself and bejewel it.
I should warn you however. I got this as a gift from my sister. Normally, I would take it to work and back. A friend of hers has the katana version, but I am more of the broadsword type. The reason I mention the katana is that it is a bit more conspicuous than the broadsword. One day without thinking I went to the mall with it to do some shopping. The bags were getting heavy so I put it on over my shoulder baldric style...I had a mother, a clerk, and mall security stop me then laugh when they realized it was an umbrella. The security guy had to be the funniest - he was all serious at first then burst out laughing and asked me where he could get one.
Bottom line, they are great umbrellas. They are fun. Just watch where you have them.
