I like glass objects, including glass paperweights, but can't really afford to indulge them as a hobby. Apparently my Manhattan benefactor can, though, since he sent me this KIKKERLAND PLANETARIUM PAPERWEIGHT. It is, as the product info. indicates, a nice solid, flat-bottomed paperweight any lover of our Solar System would be glad to have. (Blue beringed Saturn, however, does not hang suspended directly "above" our sun, as in the product info., but happily in the sixth concentric circle from Old Sol, where it belongs.) My only real gripes are that Mercury is black albeit small, the earth is black ("blacked out" for anyone not in free-fall in space?) and Venus in between, most unaccountably of all, appears an orangey coral-pink. Neil deGrasse Tyson has recently let anyone not in the know, know that Venus is a sweltering-hot ball of sulfuric acid, but "she" still looks greenish, even to the unaided eye. Since the sun, Mars, Uranus and Neptune are all roughly the accustomed colors, I don't know why the deviation in the case of the others. I am therefore forced to give this item four stars, even though it is still pretty in kind of a surreal way.

fun, much much smaller than I expected, but I guess I should have read the size description for this item and I wouldn't have been so surprised when I finally held it in my hand. Overall it's good but don't give it to anyone that might be having near vision problem because the writing is fairly small :)

I simply do not understand the rave reviews, although many "reviews" have only one or two words. Amazon packing/padding continues to be a joke, but even competent padding would not have helped this. It arrived with many smudges on its surface; but, after I gently cleaned and wiped it, some smudges were actually flaws. The sun looks like it had a huge quake or is about to explode at its fault lines.

There's no reason to return this expensive, junky tsatske because I doubt any two would arrive in better shape. I'm glad I did not purchase it from Scientifics where it was $32.95 plus shipping, and it also looked great in their illustration. According to Amazon's product description, "The Planetarium Paperweight is a beautiful example of art. Showing the plants [sic] in a display..." Why am I complaining? It's really a "plants" paperweight. If you think it's "beautiful" like many five-star reviewers, what the heck--buy it.

I used my imagination with this one. I mounted it on a nice wood plaque and suspended a model of the Voyager space craft above it. Now THAT looks cool! For those interested, the planets are all on the floor of this orb. In other words, if you look at it from any side, you look through clear glass. But looking down on it you see the planets on a stary black background. Look from about a 45 degree angke and you still see the planets and syars but the glass magnifies the fartherest planets. Trust me, it looks good and you'll like it. Neptune is near the edge and a dark blue color. Uranus is there too. A blue green color. The weight alloows my model to hover safely above it. That was a good idea!

This is a fun little paperweight that is worth it's money. It is heavy enough to serve its purpose. The dial on the one I bought (as a Christmas present for someone) is a little stiff or sticky, so it takes some effort to rotate it. But, that only needs to be done once a month, so it's not a big issue. Just don't be scared to force it. All the dates are accurate.

All the people that I gifted this to loved it.
Its an innovative design just don't like the blank spaces on the sides , but i imagine you could put some sticker with a logo on that.
OR
They should have a facility to engrave some lettering in those spaces

This paperweight is so beautiful. Seeing it in person makes you so glad you bought it. The picture on the page doesn't do it justice. I just love it. This will be one of my presents to my granddaughter for Christmas who enjoys science and all things that involve outer space.

Nice paperweight. It came in a nice, high quality box. It has felt backing so it doesn't scratch surfaces and has a fun representation of the solar system. Planets are color coded to somewhat match their traditional properties (the Earth is blue and Mars is red). Includes Pluto! :) I don't have that many papers on my desk, but it is fun to gaze into and think about space.
