I really wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this. I knew it was used for cooking, but I wasn't sure what kind of flavor it would have. But after trying it out in a few dishes, I am absolutely in love with it. It isn't harsh in any way, but it provides a nice flavor to anything you add it to. Since it has alcohol, you can use it to make nice glazes and sauces, and the sugar in it allows you to caramelize steaks, vegetables, and other items you pan fry with it. I like to use it on pork steaks to give it that tiny hint of sweetness to compliment them. I also mix it in to my sticky rice, and it can be used to make desserts as well as savory foods, really amping up the flavor. It won't overpower anything with its flavor, but it will definitely add to it. It has a wonderful balance. Will definitely get again.

Mirin, a sweet rice wine, is needed for the recipe I found. I couldn't find Mirin locally, so thankfully Amazon had it in stock at a good price. It makes perfect eel sauce, just like restaurants serve. I would recommend it for that purpose.

I use this for Asian cuisines and use it to substitute for white wine and it works very well. But it’s very expensive, there’s an Asian market near me that just opened and they have this same brand and size for half the price and other brands for cheaper price but bigger size. And I noticed how the price keeps going up on Amazon. I’d return it but not worth the hassle so i would definitely shop locally from now on for Asian goodies. But it’s a good rice wine!

Recently I've made a couple of Chinese dishes, chicken fried rice and a stir fry like chicken chow mein. I used regular white wine for them instead of the rice cooking wine they called for, of Mirin was also mentioned as a substitute, and it tasted ok, they literally only require a few tablespoons per recipe. I bought this though and it made the recipes even better. Not sure why this stuff is so hard to find, have not found a local grocery store that sells it, so even though it's expensive here in comparison to sites online I've seen it on in the US, it really makes a difference in the Chinese dishes, so it's worth it to just get it, even if more costly.
