Growing up in the same house, Noah and Georgie never really noticed each other. With six years between them, it wasn’t hard to understand why their worlds never really connected. But a fateful night when Noah saves Georgie’s life changes all of that. It is the catalyst that helps them realize they need to be in each other’s lives. Seeing each other after Georgie returns home confirms their feelings. Out of respect for his best friend, Georgie’s older sister, he tries to stay away from her but quickly realizes he can’t. Just like Noah is the beacon in her storm to find herself again, Georgie becomes the balm that soothes Noah’s need to control all situations and their outcomes. Through each other they learn to live again.
Kill Devil Hills is a sweet, moving story that kept me wanting more. I am very much looking forward to reading the next installment.
As I recalled my boyfriend and I walking up and down the beach in Nags Head, all of those questions running through my mind. About letting go. Letting go of a boy I loved because he could not be who he could be with me. The sacrifice I made. To this day, I still love him. Not the intense kind of first love. But as fondness. I knew him since I was six years old. A few years after that vacation in Nags Head, he stopped talking to me and to this day, we never spoken again. It makes me sad.
So when I looked at the title, I dived right on in and I didn't regret a thing. This book has a happier ending than I did which I was grateful for. After all, I'm still the girl who believes in happy endings. It's just the journey that is hard. This was hard for them.
Noah had a rough life, always moving around with relatives and then ending up with a crappy uncle who was a mean drunk. With his best friend's help, he got away from it all.
One day, he checked on his best friend, Ellie, and her sister. Finding her trying to kill herself changed him. While she recovered and got some help, Noah can't stop thinking about Georgina and what could have happened if he didn't find her.
When Georgina comes back, he cannot help, but check on her. He keeps wanting to protect her. He doesn't see that it's more than that. Can he give up the control in his life? Can he surrender his heart? Is the price too big to pay? Is Georgina worth it?
To find out, read this book. What a lovely book. I jumped right into Book 2 because of it. Just wow, what a love story.
I don't want to give away any spoilers with this review. I loved the characters and the interactions with each of them. So many issues are dealt with in this book. Many important subjects. They are done honestly and tastefully. Woven into the story that captures you heart and emotions. I think this is going to be one fantastic series. It is a standalone but the next book deals with Ellie. So hopefully we will get more of Noah and Georgina.
I don't really have the words to describe the emotions this book brought about...it really is a breathtakingly beautiful story, even with the heartache. I'm still trying to hold it all in writing this...
Normally I wouldn't care for a book with this type of an age difference...not that it is that big of a difference, just that she is under 21 and he's in his mid-20s, but I really felt these 2 were meant to be...Noah was her light at the end of the tunnel.
