He's highly regarded in law enforcement circles, and called on as a consultant. He knows his stuff.
He lands a job that will place Kelly and his wife in the midst of the music industry, brushing shoulders with famous country music stars. It also places them right in the middle of danger.
I loved all the characters in this story, they were well-rounded, and very likeable. (Except for the bad guys!) I'd especially love to see Cade in another story.
This was a fast-paced book that had sub-plots interwoven throughout the main story. There was a lot going on, but not too much you lost track.
I loved the main characters, sexy Texas PI Kelly McWinter and his sassy and savvy wife, Gillian. The couple finally goes on a much needed and much delayed honeymoon only to find themselves thrown back into work chasing down kidnappers and even a killer!
Kelly and Gillian agree to provide security for a nominee at the Country Music Awards, but it’s not as straightforward as they thought it would be. With kidnappers, killers, and a militia group nothing is as it seems and only one incredibly smart, handsome PI and his wife can solve these cases.
Although this book is book one of the McWinter Confidential book series, these characters have been featured in other books. However, it seems that you don’t need to have read those other books beforehand to follow and understand the story.
Both of these authors are new to me, but as I extremely enjoyed this book I will definitely be checking out their other books and will continue to follow this new series.
Even though there are two authors, the writing style is very fluid and descriptive. The pace is even toned, but filled with lots of exciting and suspenseful scenes. I have found in the past that books with multiple authors don’t always read so comprehensive – this book is definitely an exception!
This book was a super quick read with only just over 150 pages! I actually finished this book over a weekend. It was such a great read – it was hard to put down!
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a funny, exciting, and intriguing read filled with wit, mystery, suspense, and romance!
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
The romance part of this romantic suspense mainly consists of the relationship between Kelly and his bride Gillian—as they take a long delayed honeymoon (and like any honeymooners, a lot of that relationship was working out in the bedroom).
This was primarily a mystery—there were two lines of suspense: Kelly and Gillian spent some time providing security for a country star (sounded like an ideal time for a vacation/honeymoon, but kidnappers and stalkers get in the way) while on the homefront, a militia group is found nearly in their backyard.
I liked the characters – primary and secondary. These people and their relationships were the best part of the book for me. The suspense part—there were some good parts. I was a bit disappointed in the way one of them resolved itself, but not enough that I wouldn’t read more from these authors. I liked the characters that much. I’m looking forward to getting to know them better (and I’ll be checking out the backstory series as well!).
