This movie is gold! Loved it as a kid and it still holds up to this day! It's a B-movie but it's one of a kind. There is nothing disappointing about this movie except we never got a part 2! We are waiting.....
At least we are getting the video game as its in the works. Hope they finish it.

This new 4K transfer is GORGEOUS! A better movie now than when I first saw it.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (Special Edition) [Blu-ray] I'm a long-time fan of this movie, so I've been looking forward to what is effectively a 30th anniversary Blu-Ray. However, my anticipation was not without some concerns. Part of the fun with Killer Klowns is that we get to see how the three Chiodo brothers crafted a fun, creative film on a shoestring budget by dint of their passion and hard work. Sure, it's staged and performed like all those 'B'-grade movies you may have seen at a drive-in theatre, but that's the point. Killer Klowns is a loving homage to cheap & cheerful 'chiller' flicks from the '50s and '60s and it stands above them largely on the basis of its delightful special effects...all of which were 'practical', meaning no CGI and only about 30 seconds of stop-motion animation. And it's because of the effects that I had reservations about finally seeing a print with proper resolution and contrast. The original DVD version was famously murky, throughout. Of course, this was largely due to all the night shots but I had long presumed the Chiodos cleverly took advantage of the dark frames to help conceal at least some of the necessarily low-cost effects. Well, after watching the new disc twice I couldn't have been more wrong -- this new 4K transfer is amazing! Everything on-screen is super crisp -- you can see every ghastly crease in the alien Klowns' faces. But far from exposing Hollywood FX magic, it only makes the Chiodos' work all the more remarkable. If anything, it's a better movie now than when I saw it the first time! The new Special Edition disc includes a large set of extra features that are pretty much the same as in earlier releases, with lots of them dating from the 2014 Blu-Ray release. There's a new interview with two members of The Dickies (theme song band) and another with the Chiodo brothers, who describe -- and show -- more of their childhood movie efforts than we've previously seen. The package includes an illustrated booklet with a short-form essay by critic James Oliver and information on the transfer, plus a 2-sided mini-poster that's meant to resemble old-school lobby placards -- see my photos, nearby. If you're a fan or even if you just enjoy watching true professionals practice their craft, you can't go wrong with this disc. Killer Klowns rocks!

Some movies are just goofy and cheesy enough to be good. This one is possibly the best example of that.

This review is for the Blu-Ray version of 'Killer Klowns From Outer Space.'
There are lots and lots of reviews already and i saw the movie a few years ago but decided to revisit it upon release of this blu-ray. Like the previous release by MGM's Midnite Movies, there are lots of extra's and the picture quality is excellent. But then again, the picture quality was excellent on the previous release by MGM. It's not necessary to upgrade unless you are a huge fan of the movie and absolutely must have the best picture possible.
I'm giving this release 5 stars because the movie is excellent and highly imaginative. The picture quality, which was already excellent is at it's best here so I can't lower the rating just because it isn't a huge improvement.
The movie starts off with a couple of college students 'making out' at a lookout, the kind you see in lots of movies. These two are Mike and Debbie. They see a shooting star and decide to go investigate. Meanwhile, in a homage to 'The Blob' we see a farmer who goes into the woods to investigate the supposed meteor. He finds a circus tent in the middle of the woods and encounters a Klown. Mike and Debbie arrive soon after and find the aforementioned circus tent. They enter and soon realize it's not a circus tent but something else entirely different. They discover dead people wrapped in cotton candy. Time enough to scream and head out quickly. They head to the police station and try to convince the police that their are clowns killing people. Officer Mooney (John Vernon, whom we all remember as the Dean in Animal House) is having none of it. Fortunately, Debbie's ex-boyfriend, Officer Dave decides to give them a chance and go investigate. Debbie is dumped off at home and Dave and Mike head to the woods where they find the tent is gone. Of course, Dave doesn't believe Mike despite the fact that their is an enormous crater right where the tent was and arrests Mike on the spot. This might be extreme but he was looking for a reason to get rid of Mike so he can make the moves on his ex, Debbie. It's not long after that that Officer Dave discovers that Mike is telling the truth. Officer Mooney, despite receiving a phone call from everybody in town (while sitting and laughing while reading a guns and ammo magazine!) refuses to believe any bit of this business of clowns. Even when he a Klown shows up he still believes the town is playing a practical joke on him. His end is somewhat creepy and reminiscent of 'What's the Matter with Helen?' From here it's up to Mike, Debbie, and Officer Dave to stop the Killer Klowns from Outer Space (along with some added help from the comical and very sexually frustrated Terenzi Brothers.)
Just about every stereotype of clowns you can think of is used at some point in this movie. It is very creative and enjoyable to watch. I have to admit I thought I was going to hate it when I first watched it a few years back. I was bored for the first 15 minutes but then once I saw the Klowns in action along with the very excellent makeup, I was hooked.
There are lots of good extra's that come with the movie. For starters there is an audio commentary by the Chiodo brothers, who made the movie. There are 5 featurettes which include the 'making of' and visual effects. There are also deleted scenes and bloopers along with the trailer.
Highly Recommended for all fans of the horror-comedy genre and also for fans of clown (Klown) movies!

One of my favourite low budget movies.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on October 11, 2008
I've loved this film since the first time I saw it almost 20 years ago.
It grabbed me right from the start when the superb theme tune by The Dickies kicked in. The clowns themselves are suitably menacing, they look like badly filled fancy dress costumes gone wild but when they show their teeth it's time to watch out. The line "they were travelling through outer space and stopped for something to eat" describes the plot succinctly and Cove Crescent is their chosen pit-stop.
John Vernon as the red-neck deputy Curtis Mooney is the only really bright light in the acting stakes. The special effects are not that brilliant but that suits the movie well, this is not an FX extravaganza but it is one of the best low budget comedy horror movies you will see.
Apart from the big-top space ship and low-grade plastic weapons there's also the klown kar, the klown women (looking as sexy as the stripper in Funny Man), popcorn that grows into monsters and custard pies that dissolve flesh; almost every aspect of the circus clown act is twisted into some fiendish device here.
If I had one complaint it would be the lack of any real extras, most notably the 20 minute "making of" featurette that appeared on the R1 DVD release many years ago is not included here. That grumble aside thanks to the Chiodo Brothers for making a movie that cheers me up every time I watch it and The Dickies for that brilliant theme tune.

The Chiodo Brothers (Stephen, Charles and Edward) are legends of the makeup and Animatronics fields - From the base '80s-ness of "Critters" to the low-brow satire that is "Team America : World Police" they have reigned supreme in this department, giving even Screaming Mad George a slight run for his money. But why give them a movie of their very own? Surely that would be the same as asking a Filing Clerk for a Nuclear Power Plant to take over for the weekend whilst the Operations Staff go bobbing for apples? Would it Hell.
In a decade filled with quirky B-Movie goodness, it takes a team with vision to present you with something that manages to stand out amongst a crowd with such nuance; Aliens that arrive from the depths of Outer Space that strangely resemble clowns, resplendant with many clownish accoutrements. All of this is set within the usual "aliens-with-mysterious-agenda-terrorise-American-Hick-Town-and-are-defeated" motif, so apart from the Clourophobia fetish, what does this movie give you that is new? The answer lies within the Chiodo Brother's work on the Clowns themselves - Considering the brothers used almost all their budget on pre-production and STILL managed to build such rouge-splattered juggernauts beggars belief. They rock, Insane Clown Posse are exceedingly jealous and such. Hats off.
So, movie-wise the film just works. DVD-wise? bare bones, widescreen transfer, hideous packaging. Looks like a 1985 VHS release, "The Journey Of Natty Gann" perhaps. No matter, Region 1 has had this for yonks, as per usual Region 2 is just beginning to catch up. You know you have to have it!

Good restoration in HD with a very good DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundmix. Nice add to my collection, sadly a lot these movies are not available in the Netherlands, the English imports are great and will play perfectly on my Blu-Ray player, big thank you to Amazon.
I had a lot of fun with my two teenage nephews who are just since about 2 years becoming interested in horrormovies, especially slashermovies and horror combined with some comedy. This is a very enjoyable horror/comedy, the clowns look good with good looking practical effects and costumes. A much watch for horrorfans who like funny movies as well. Not to he taking serious at all, get popcorn and soda drinks and enjoy for 90 minutes. Recommended!

First of all, `Killer Klowns From Outer Space' is NOT a horror. But then it's also not a straight comedy. There's not an awful lot that's horrific about it, instead, it chooses to be a tongue-in-cheek caper with very creepy undertones. If you're not afraid of clowns, you probably will be after you've seen this lot. There's just something about them which is `icky.' It's hard to describe.
Either way, this clowns (or `Klowns' for some unknown reason) are intent on wrapping humans in candy floss and then sucking their blood through curly straws.
There is nothing serious about this entire film. It's the ultimate B-movie of the eighties (in fact, it may be a C-movie). The acting is dodgy, the special effects aren't that special (although the Klowns' masks are nicely nasty).
It's one of those movies where you simply have to put your brains on hold to enjoy it. There are plenty of plot holes that I choose not to notice, as I'm too busy enjoying the sheer stupidity.
Don't think, just laugh.

Very funny horror comedy. A small town in America comes under attack from a bizarre group of aliens who arrive in a UFO that looks like a circus big top tent! The aliens look like scary clowns who use pop corn guns and acid cream pies as weapons and have guard dogs made from balloon animals. They are on earth looking for food...namely people, who they cocoon in candy floss sacks which they can stick their curly straws into to suck the fluids out. Its up to a group of teens to find a way to stop the clown aliens and destroy the UFO. This is a tongue in cheek horror comedy, and I think it is intended to amuse rather than scare the viewer. It's great fun and I recommend it.
