Killer Klowns from Outer Space (Special Edition) [Blu-ray
] I'm a long-time fan of this movie, so I've been looking forward to what is effectively a 30th anniversary Blu-Ray. However, my anticipation was not without some concerns. Part of the fun with Killer Klowns is that we get to see how the three Chiodo brothers crafted a fun, creative film on a shoestring budget by dint of their passion and hard work. Sure, it's staged and performed like all those 'B'-grade movies you may have seen at a drive-in theatre, but that's the point. Killer Klowns is a loving homage to cheap & cheerful 'chiller' flicks from the '50s and '60s and it stands above them largely on the basis of its delightful special effects...all of which were 'practical', meaning no CGI and only about 30 seconds of stop-motion animation.
And it's because of the effects that I had reservations about finally seeing a print with proper resolution and contrast. The original DVD version was famously murky, throughout. Of course, this was largely due to all the night shots but I had long presumed the Chiodos cleverly took advantage of the dark frames to help conceal at least some of the necessarily low-cost effects. Well, after watching the new disc twice I couldn't have been more wrong -- this new 4K transfer is amazing! Everything on-screen is super crisp -- you can see every ghastly crease in the alien Klowns' faces. But far from exposing Hollywood FX magic, it only makes the Chiodos' work all the more remarkable. If anything, it's a better movie now than when I saw it the first time!
The new Special Edition disc includes a large set of extra features that are pretty much the same as in earlier releases, with lots of them dating from the 2014 Blu-Ray release. There's a new interview with two members of The Dickies (theme song band) and another with the Chiodo brothers, who describe -- and show -- more of their childhood movie efforts than we've previously seen. The package includes an illustrated booklet with a short-form essay by critic James Oliver and information on the transfer, plus a 2-sided mini-poster that's meant to resemble old-school lobby placards -- see my photos, nearby. If you're a fan or even if you just enjoy watching true professionals practice their craft, you can't go wrong with this disc. Killer Klowns rocks!

It's pretty much B-movie garbage with a cult following. It has some charm, but in the end it's your typical bad movie. Unless you're a hardcore B-movie flick fan, I'd say skip it. I love 80's movies and wanted to check it out because I vaguely remember it from my childhood, but it pretty much fell flat on me. John Vernon as the cop was good but with such a terrible script it didn't end up as being that much of a saving grace. I think a lot of people "bonded" with this movie because of when it came out and the current nostalgia. That's why I think it has such ratings, though some people genuinely find it clever, campy, etc. There's a lot of movies that do it wayyy better than this. Worse than usual effects for the time period too. This is a prime example a cheap movie that ended up being something a lot of people rented on VHS tapes because of the cover and the name. I just wanted to let you folks know what you're signing up for with this move. Enjoy or not! Good luck.

Years ago when I first heard of Killer Klowns From Outer Space I heard it was bad or goofy. But thanks to YouTube I watched an body count of this film and it got me interested to check it out. I'm glad I ordered the Special Edition Blu Ray as I'll check out the extra goodies it comes with, anyway onto the review.
On a late Friday night Mike and his girlfriend Debbie see a shooting star while on lovers' lane. They go to check it out however they find an circus tent as they enter and realize it's a space ship and inside are aliens that look like clowns. They also have people inside cotton candy like cocoon. Horrified what they saw they go to tell a police officer which is Debbie's ex-boyfriend Dave.
Dave takes Debbie home and when they find where Mike saw the circus tent it's gone with Dave believing it was a prank however when they pass by lover's lane all the vehicles have the same cotton candy that Mike and Debbie told him. Dave uncuffs Mike and tries to warn another officer Mooney who has been giving Dave a hard time and has been secretly drinking while on the job. When Mike and Dave return to town they see the Klowns killing and capturing people. When the Klowns find Debbie they kidnap her with Mike, Dave along with two of Mike's friends Rich and Paul race to save Debbie as the Klowns set up base at a amusement park.
This was a very fun film to watch. Very creative with it's theme and plot however I wish it had more to offer. One thing I felt that wasn't right was it's rating. PG-13? It has quite a lot of swearing, blood and one gore scene but seeing how this was the 80s you could easily get away with things like that back then. Overall a fun film to watch!

I recall being incredibly freaked out by this film when I was a bit younger. I recently watched it again and found it really humorous. Though I dislike clowns immensely, it was fun to watch over again! Killer Klowns was the movie that started the scary Klown fad. This movie is a must see 80's flick. I loved it back then and still do and when I saw that I could get it on Blu-ray and on sale I had to have it. If you love a good horror story that is not over the top gory then buy this. It is funny and creepy all in the same. Never gets old watching it. Made when Hollywood was still making a movie from an original script. Man those Klowns are nasty and creepy. There was talks of a remake for years now but honestly, don't think it would do well with all the new cgi lately making it look all artifical.

Good restoration in HD with a very good DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundmix. Nice add to my collection, sadly a lot these movies are not available in the Netherlands, the English imports are great and will play perfectly on my Blu-Ray player, big thank you to Amazon.
I had a lot of fun with my two teenage nephews who are just since about 2 years becoming interested in horrormovies, especially slashermovies and horror combined with some comedy. This is a very enjoyable horror/comedy, the clowns look good with good looking practical effects and costumes. A much watch for horrorfans who like funny movies as well. Not to he taking serious at all, get popcorn and soda drinks and enjoy for 90 minutes. Recommended!

Very funny horror comedy. A small town in America comes under attack from a bizarre group of aliens who arrive in a UFO that looks like a circus big top tent! The aliens look like scary clowns who use pop corn guns and acid cream pies as weapons and have guard dogs made from balloon animals. They are on earth looking for food...namely people, who they cocoon in candy floss sacks which they can stick their curly straws into to suck the fluids out. Its up to a group of teens to find a way to stop the clown aliens and destroy the UFO. This is a tongue in cheek horror comedy, and I think it is intended to amuse rather than scare the viewer. It's great fun and I recommend it.

One of my favourite low budget movies.

I've loved this film since the first time I saw it almost 20 years ago.
It grabbed me right from the start when the superb theme tune by The Dickies kicked in. The clowns themselves are suitably menacing, they look like badly filled fancy dress costumes gone wild but when they show their teeth it's time to watch out. The line "they were travelling through outer space and stopped for something to eat" describes the plot succinctly and Cove Crescent is their chosen pit-stop.
John Vernon as the red-neck deputy Curtis Mooney is the only really bright light in the acting stakes. The special effects are not that brilliant but that suits the movie well, this is not an FX extravaganza but it is one of the best low budget comedy horror movies you will see.
Apart from the big-top space ship and low-grade plastic weapons there's also the klown kar, the klown women (looking as sexy as the stripper in Funny Man), popcorn that grows into monsters and custard pies that dissolve flesh; almost every aspect of the circus clown act is twisted into some fiendish device here.
If I had one complaint it would be the lack of any real extras, most notably the 20 minute "making of" featurette that appeared on the R1 DVD release many years ago is not included here. That grumble aside thanks to the Chiodo Brothers for making a movie that cheers me up every time I watch it and The Dickies for that brilliant theme tune.

A most ridiculous blast from the past.

The original killer clowns set down on earth to harvest their own brand of circus candy, us. Armed with dangerous weaponry such as popcorn, cotton candy and shadow figures they go to town on earthly streets. Of course there are better movies out there, but this is just ridiculous fun.
