Thank you for reading my review. :-) I hope it helped.
Coop attends a fundraiser with his current Lady. The fundraiser has an assortment of notables from the Nashville, Tennessee. Musicians, Legislatures, etc. all flow together and enjoy the music and food selections amid galleries of art. Coop finds a couple having an argument. Then, he later sees the male move on to other loud arguments, finally, he sees him somewhat lurking around the appetizer section of the buffet table. What is that man's story?
Well, when a body is found the next morning by the venue's gardeners...Coop is destined to learn just that fact.
Coop Harrington has inherited his Uncle's detective agency. Although Coop is a lawyer, he worked with his uncle for years and finds the agency a good fit for himself and his pal, Gus, a golden retriever.
As in Perry Mason, you get the feeling that his secretary/right arm, Annabelle (AB) would like to be closer to Coop but he is blind to it. Unlike Perry Mason, Coop is close friends with the Chief of Police and joins him in finding who the killer is.
I enjoyed the tale and was interested in who and why the killer murdered this one man. Interesting novel.
I enjoyed this novel because it ambles along at a steady pace rather than sending pulses stampeding and thereby gives the reader the opportunity to savour the flavour of the plot. - which I won't go into as others have. One other excellent aspect of this one is the lack of explicit sexual antics - which is the greatest blessing one could have in a novel!!!
I did find the victim's death very sad - no spoilers - and was sorry that he was the one murdered. Coop is not obnoxious as some PI's are and I liked the character of Annabelle.
All in all, I would be very open to reading the second novel in this series.
Don't expect a barrage of hard-hitting action or a trail laden with red herrings in this low-key, cozy mystery where the author keeps her characters well-informed and very well-fed. Cooper Harrington is an amiable, down-home type of character who is sure to capture the reader's heart. And if that doesn't work, there's always Gus.
