Killerjoy by Jon Negroni is a great read! I'm not a big reader of the fantasy or science fiction genres generally, but this was a captivating novel that immersed me in a fantastical dominion complete with lords, parcels, hellions, masques, and monsters, "for true!" But it wasn't just great fantasy--this story has excellent characters with amazing depth who journey to find their way (and accomplish their personal missions) under the threat of a new annihilation. The story is multi-layered and each main character (Exa, Attle, Demaro Jun and others) has their own story arc. One of my favorite things about this novel was the discovery along the way of how the characters intersected with each other and the unlikely superheroes who begin to emerge. As a side note, I loved the interplay and stereotypes of the different regions within the dominion. And, hey, it has a gargoyle! Who doesn't love that? I can't wait for book two!

I'm a big fan! The author did a great job of establishing a new an interesting world with it's own blend of fantasy and science fiction. I loved how the two concepts mixed to create its own form of technological magic. The characters really grew on me, and I enjoyed the various twists and turns of their journey. I'm very excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out!

This is one of the best fantasy novels I've ever read. The characters all have their own story and lives that are so intriguing and gripping that it fully immerses you into the story - and that includes side characters. The story is very well paced and intricately woven as each character's own arc leads you to different places and on different adventures, all of which making you love each character that much more. The world that the author has built is very well thought out with clear rules and a lot of intrigue and mystery. The world feels realistic and lived in much in the way Middle Earth or Westeros do. From start to finish, this novel has had me so fully enthralled that the outside world fell away. A feeling I haven't experienced since Dance of Dragons.

And who does't like that cover art?
