The protagonist in the book, Jessica Yardley, is an amazing woman that has survived horrors we could truly not imagine. She’s intimately tied to the title of this psychological thriller, courtroom mystery, police procedural. Strong, courageous, a mom of an highly intelligent teenager, lawyer and ex wife of the potential key to this killing spree. Her daughter is the love of her life and the bane of her days; all rolled up together. Their relationship is so very real.
Supporting Yardley is a cast of characters that feel right. There’s just enough development to be interesting and enough left unsaid to leave room for future installments. These folks are perfect for a series.
Methos is a relationship writer. He carefully explores the nuances between Jessica and her serial killer ex husband, her daughter, her live-in-lover and her co-workers, all while the story unfolds around them. It’s an excellent interplay of plotting and characters and a hallmark of his style.
Even tho’ the subject matter is one of multiple murders, the violence in this book is not gratuitous nor is there any sexual content like that. The are 2 very soft expletives in the entire volume easily giving this book a PG rating for subject matter alone.
“A Killer”s Wife” is an extraordinary work of fiction that crosses multiple genres. It will entertain and confound while you cheer for Yardley to become victorious in her efforts 📚
Jessica who has worked hard to raise her child and build a life after her husband is arrested for a multiple murder is a character that is very sympathetic and holds her own as a character. I found her struggles to raise her brilliant but difficult daughter compelling. Unfortunately the novel starts to slip as the POV shifts to FBI Agent Baldwin who is a much less developed character and immediately slows down the novel’s momentum. I feel like the author has made it it very obvious who the copycat killer will turn out to be but I haven’t reached the end to confirm my suspicions. Even if you are a fan of this genre I would highly recommend looking at the other options before choosing this one. Even free it’s boring and I’d rather be reading a better book!
I loved how smart the people in the story all were, not a dumb idiot among them. And even though I thought I figured out who did it from the beginning - I was wrong, and wrong again, and even wrong at the very end. Loved this book.
I love that there is a happy ending. But I hope there will be a sequel with the daughter as the main character and wonder what she'll be like when she grows up. She has so much potential and could go in any direction of her choosing. Even though she wasn't the main character, I found her to be the most interesting and intriguing.
However, I would NOT suggest this book for a young adult because even though the daughter is amazingly intelligent and industrious, she is capable of deceit and rebelling against her mom, and the book discusses sex, drugs, rape and killing. But even though I can't normally handle a book like that, I had no problem with this book because it lacks in-depth gory details, and has a hopeful ending. Enjoy!

I really found it exceedingly hard to put the book down on many occasions, having to force myself to take a break or I would never have got any sleep. In fact, it was one of those books that, even after you have closed it, you continue to think about it and try to work it out as you drifted off to sleep. Despite the fact that we eventually believe we know who the murderer is, there are many twists and devious corners to navigate, with the final one being the best of them all.
This is an excellent start to a new series and I am most certainly looking forward to the next one as I want to find out how Yardley is going to make a comeback.
I’m not usually a fan of legal thrillers, but this one was excellent. An FBI procedural-legal courtroom thriller, the story is set in Las Vegas, where federal prosecutor Jessica Yardley is drawn into a bloody case of a copycat serial killer. Intriguingly, the killer is copying Jessica’s ex-husband, a serial killer who’s now on death row, setting up a story that is a battle of brains between Jessica and the copycat.
Jessica as the main character is incredibly well done. A smart, strong-willed, woman who manages to not let anything get her down. Added to that is the portrayal of her ex-husband, Eddie, a serial killer who, you’d think, would be either absolutely hateful or wooden and stereotypical. And yet Methos manages to write him in such a way that he doesn’t end up being just a stereotypical murderer, but a human as well.
If you’re a fan of serial killer stories this should definitely be your next read.
Two couples have been murdered and not only is there a serial killer on the loose, but he has is a copy cat carrying out his crimes the way Jessica's ex husband the serial killer Eddie Cal did.
I have never read anything by Victor Methos before, and I am so glad I picked this for my Amazon First Reads choice this month.
This is a brilliant book.
Great characters and easy to read.
Okay I had worked out who the killer was in advance, but I never saw the twist at the end coming.
A great read and highly recommended.
