Review

"The "On the Line" series is a must read for me." -- Denise, Shh Mom's Reading

"I just love Brenda's style of writing, her ability to take the reader into the character's story. You have a pretty strong alpha male, but you also have a kick ass leading lady who doesn't let anyone put her down or push her around. These two are two forces to be reckoned with ... Go ahead and give Killian a chance, I promise he will not disappoint. I can't wait for the next books in this series!!!" - Janett Gomez, The Pleasure of Reading Today

"More than anything I loved reading their story and watching the relationship grow. Because it changed them both in really great ways -- they gained respect for one another, personally and professionally. And hot? Holy Hannah! These two were hot as an oven. *Fans self*" -- Laurie Oh, The Literary Gossip

I first fell in love with Brenda Rothert's writing when I met her first hockey hunk, Ryke and ever since then she has been giving us hockey hunk after hockey hunk, which are my absolute favorite. So when the Fire On Ice came series came to an end I was devastated. Gladly it was not for long when I found out she was writing a new spin off series, On the Line, and we would be getting so many more new hockey hunks.

Killian is the first book in the new spin off series and I must say Brenda did not disappoint, I am absolutely in love with Mr. Bosch. But the bonus is, we get a bit more Orion as he is the new coach of the Fenway Flyers, the minor league team that Killian is the captain of. Along with the new coach is a new owner, Miss Sidney Stahl, a.k.a. The Ice Queen. She recently purchased the Flyers and she was determined to turn this losing team around and fix their image, starting with Mr. Killian Bosch.

I loved Killian, he was hot and sexy, and was a bit cocky too but deep down, he was sweet and tender and totally swoon worthy hockey hunk. He had a huge heart and when he put his heart into something he gave it his all. I absolutely loved the love he had for his mother and how when it all came out, his recklessness and bad boy image was more about dealing with the loss of his mother and not wanting to go on to bigger and better things without her being there to cheer him on.

Sidney was such a great character, she was strong and determined, smart, funny and very sassy but she too had a big heart and I loved when she let the walls down and let Killian in.

Sidney Stahl (love the name and from this I can hazard a guess as to what players Brenda likes) is a self-made millionaire, making her first million while in college. As a hockey fan, she has just purchased the Fenway Flyers, a minor league team with bad stats and an even worse reputation. She vows to clean up the team’s image and create a team to be reckoned with.

Her major hurdle comes in the form of Killian Bosch, the team’s captain. Sick of hearing about the team’s whoring, drinking and troubles with the law, she hopes that by bringing Killian into line, the rest of the team will follow. But the situation becomes difficult when Sidney struggles to obey her own rule: no fraternisation with the players.

I was really excited to read Killian for a couple of reasons. One: It’s about a hockey player, so YAAY! Two: Because I was hoping to have found a new author who writes about hockey players.

Sadly, I was left quite disappointed with this book. I never felt a connection with the characters, nor did I get emotionally invested into any part of the book. The best way I can describe my thoughts on this book is to say that it just felt flat. There was no real build-up or tension to their relationship. I thought Killian was supposed to be this real bad boy, but as soon as he meets Sidney he settles down almost instantly. There was nothing to hate about the book, but nothing to love about it either.

I didn’t get the blackmail scene towards the end. It came out of nowhere, it’s mentioned for all of 2 minutes, it’s never resolved nor is the person brought to justice, so why did it even have to be in the book? To create drama for drama’s sake? It made absolutely no sense to me.

Killian Bosh is a brilliant hockey player, his plays are sharp, and he has the respect of his new coach and teammates. Although he has the ability to play with the best of them, he keeps sabotaging himself. His attitude and his ability to get in trouble, from bar fights to bad publicity due to the company he keeps, are his worst enemies. But not even Killian's love and devotion of the game can dig out his team, The Flyers, from the hole they're in.

Sidney Stahl is a savy and intelligent business woman, who just recently bought the Flyers and who's mission is to make them a winning team. Her first order of business being getting rid of the players that are not working out and change the attitudes of the trouble makers.
When Sidney and Killian meet they can't deny the chemistry between them, it's sizzling and palpable, and even though they know nothing can happen between them because of their boss/employee relationship, they can't hide the attraction they feel for each other.

Unknowingly they both become what the other needs. Sidney is the force Killian needs to change his attitude around and strive for bigger and better when it comes to his career, while Killian is the unconditional support system Sidney so much needs.

I just love Brenda's style of writing, her ability to take the reader into the character's story. You have a pretty strong alpha male, but you also have a kick ass leading lady who doesn't let anyone put her down or push her around. These two are two forces to be reckoned with.
There is some angst throughout the book, but mostly these are two mature characters in a journey of self discovering. I also have to mention that Brenda wrote in this book one of the most sensual scenes I've ever read. It's beautiful, it's powerful, and it will take your breath away.
Go ahead and give Killian a chance, I promise he will not disappoint. I can't wait for the next books in this series!!!
