I always enjoy reading Tanya's books, but I very seldom cry as much as I did with this one. As I have found to be true with all of her work that I have read, this story kept my attention throughout with it's great plot, well developed and believable characters, and wonderful storyline.

But what surprised me was how moved I was by the epilogue of the story. Before I was halfway through reading it I was in a full on ugly cry. Perhaps I'm just hormonal today, but the speech her father makes got to me in a way that her writing seldom does. Tanya is usually known for her authentic and well thought out action sequences. Yes, she always includes plenty of romance, and not just a little introspection on the part of the main character, but this book got to me more than her other works. Perhaps in part because I shared some experiences with the main character, perhaps because I shared many of the same thoughts, desires, and prayers as the main character, but I think mostly as I truly identified with Mikayla more than I usually do. Oh how I have wanted to have understanding parents for the better part of my life.

You see, like many others, I buried my true self because it was expected of me. I was expected to live up to certain standards and be a certain type of man - even if that was as far as possible from my reality. Like Mikayla, I too lay at awake at night praying to a God that I hoped was there and listening to grant me that one miracle that I so desired; to wake up to see that my one true wish had been granted. Unlike Mikayla, God didn't work his miracle in any strange ways for me.

When her father and uncle give their speeches at the end of the story, well, let's just say that I cried for that which I have lost and will never regain.

Another fast, enjoyable story from Tanya Allan. Her character descriptions are superb, as is the story line action. This was a very fast read on my Kindle. I’ve also been re-reading the Matt Helm books of my other favorite author (Donald Hamilton) so both the thoughts and action of this story seemed to sync with the thoughts and actions of those books.

Great book. Mrs. Allan you have a return reader. You have an extensive knowledge about the service. Either you served or you did your homework. The book had some sex. Not as much as I was thinking but the story and the plot very well thought out. Could be an actual biography. Buying another bok of yours Mrs. Allen. Thank you.

I think that this book stands out as the best work of this wonderful author. It's the story about a young British Royal Marine, a combat-hardened chap, who as a child prayed to God to change him into a girl. As luck would have it, one day because of circumstances beyond his control, he finally gets his wish. This occurs in a most unusual, though somehow plausible manner. The story offers great character development and a glimpse of some rather touching relationships of the key character. One in particular that stands out and perhaps will move the reader is the interaction with the father of this very special person. The novel has lots of positives going for it. But the most powerful and eloquent part of this book is the protagonist's own acceptance of the female gender role that is thrust upon him. This is done in such a sensitive way that the reader will be astounded at the ease and grace that a male born person can embrace and have a female gender role become completely natural and without shame.

This was the first book from this author I've read. Her writing gets better in subsequent books. This one is unique and held my interest because the main character went through a normal sex change. No magic, no alien device, no quick change. Just a straight forward sex change that took several months and was very painful. Of all the books I've read by this author this character is probably the only one I would like to see in another story.

This is a great story from beginning to end. It doesn't fit in the erotica section of books where I found it but instead a story of a man forced to become a woman due to a malfunction of his body immune system causing his body to start shutting down .The cure is to change him from a man to a woman. The story then follows her life as she uses the skills taught to her as a man in the English version of the Marines to carve out a career as a bodyguard and later as a sniper to shoot terrorists. It keeps you in suspense as you turn pages anxiously to find out what happens next. Will she be happy as a woman ?Will she find love ?Will she find success as a bodyguard and sniper? The answers lie in the pages of this book. Also read this author's other book"When I count to three another romantic suspenseful novel.

She retained the capabilities of the special forces soldier she was, but added a core of femininity which was very appealing. Another well written and thought provoking novel by one of the very best in her league. Tanya can write with both male and female perspective which I find very unusual in female authors.

It had interesting and good points, kept me interested. There was some action and romance, but- it glossed over certain things, then harped on others repeatedly. It blew by certain things real fast. I get your emotions don't go on a timeline, but it was like a fairy godmother past the awful illness and transformation pain just said boom, here it all is.
