Personally being a bit slow at the beginning and really the script a bit out of place (big brother behavior), the climax is excellent and Elijah's character is great. Absolutely recommended.
Recomendado absolutamente. Trae subtítulos en español latino.
There's really just three things you need to know:
1. It's pretty morbid. This is not a family-friendly movie in any sense. Some parts were uncomfortable, bordering on disturbing, even for a jaded adult.
2. While it does have a fullish arc and is a standalone movie, it seems set up for a sequel [or more]. Which, as far as I'm aware, don't exist. So don't be surprised that the ending sets up a lot of unfulfilled enticement as much as it actually concludes anything.
3. I didn't realise until literally the last scene of the movie that it's _supposed_ to be set in the 'real' world. There's so much destruction and desolation shown in the opening sequences that I assumed this was some parallel world where there's been some kind of destructive war. Actually, apparently not - apparently that's just Detroit, or wherever the movie is nominally set. So, know that it's meant to be the real world, so certain things that happen are _meant_ to be exceptional and unusual, not just daily life in a war-ravaged city.
P.S. I generally like James Franco for his - typically - irreverent, comedic characters. This movie does not contain one of those characters. He does give an excellent performance, to be clear, but know that there's no silver lining, no redeeming quality - he is absolutely a bad guy. A very dark, bad, bad guy.
