When Benny and Zeke first met the thing that stood out the most is that they weren't each other's usual type. The PoV is Zeke's and Zeke has a type, and that's always been tall, blond, muscular, and "manly". Men that aren't assumed to be gay. Benny isn't tall and muscular, he's bright and a bit sparkly, he uses his clothes to express who he is, he speaks his mind, and he gets a big of a kick out of pushing Zeke's comfort level. Despite himself and all the times he tells himself that Benny isn't his type, Zeke is soon chasing Benny even to the point that he crashes in on a date Benny is having. Yay, Zeke!
I was hooked from the first page and only put it down for dinner and then was anxious to get back. Oh, I've missed that kind of book!
There wasn't any cheating. There wasn't any stupid/senseless behavior that made me want to smack them. Thank you, thank you! So tired of that in the books I've been reading lately.
What a great way to spend my first day of summer vacation. <3
Amazing, charming, lovable characters, super hot sexiness, and beautiful writing that will hold your interest ! We have wealthy Wall Street wiz, Ezekiel Zeke, who meets the flamboyant, adorable, femme, Benjamin Benny, and the sparks fly. Zeke doesn't understand the attraction because he's not his usual type, but the friendship starts slow, the feelings grow, and the relationship begins. Many factors are involved, like Zeke's family, Benny's big Catholic Italian family, their work, and friends, plus exes all fit into this tale. Benny knocks down Zeke's sturdy walls, and they each find comfort in the others presence. These two men really gel in and out of bed. Terrific hot sex with these guys that you'll love, plus just enough tension to make this work beautifully. I liked the internal thought processes, deep conversations, and the never-give-up attitudes, too.
Benny seems to have figured out how to deal with most of his issues, while Zeke still flounders here and there as he lets go of past problems, and moves forward. They are so good for each other.
I highly recommend this absolutely delightful journey these men are on.
Many thanks to dear Ralu for the recommendation ! x
Told from Zeke's pov. I must say i would loved it even more when I could peak in Benny's head now and then.
Because....Benny....what is not to love....
Zeke has a rigid personality he is sweet but says things at moments that he just should keep his mouth shut!! Not only the wrong moments but also wrong things to say. But he is funny and endearing and you can only love him.
Their start is outright wrong....the wrong intentions....they are totally opposite....but....they have a click, multiple clicks...
They pretend to have a relationship....for family sake....what started for fun and looks likes it's only fun.....is getting stronger....again.... no real strings....until Benny gets it that Zeke can't let his past go....his anger and frustrations...takes a lot of space...
Benny is so different he's very positive and can't stand Zeke his attitude.
A very good developed story with amazing personalities. Not only Zeke and Benny were great put down Both men were flawed in a very realistic way....also the families, friends and other not to be mentioned persons were terrific put down.
Very funny passages, also emotional at times.
Definitely a mustread !!
"To set me straight when my rigid attitude sometimes threatened common sense."
The "we're just playing boyfriends" situation was really having to suspend disbelief. However, it did lend to the final ending.
It is fantasy where outwardly opposites attract but both characters are inwardly similar. It really is Zeke's journey of releasing the anger of past history in his life and start anew. This catalyst comes alive with the introduction of Benny into his life.
I have to admit there are a few zingers that literally caused me to laugh out loud. That rarely happens so the dialogue is witty at times.
I bought the novel around 6:00 pm and finished about 1:45 am-- the entire novel in one evening. I rarely do that too.
I recommend this work for readers who can suspend disbelief and are enticed by a strong plot and well developed characters.

If you ignore any preconceptions the story was pretty much faithful to the blurb. Wall Street wizard Zeke wasn't always wholly likeable but that just made him feel more real and Benny - also superbly drawn - softened his hard edges immeasurably. I do wish we'd had some of Benny's POV though. Was he wonderfully unique and larger than life? Absolutely. But at times his wants and needs were blurry and without knowing his inner conflicts and motivation it became a guessing game that while frustrating, was more disappointing than anything else. I just kept wondering what on earth he was thinking and why he made the choices he did. There were hints and LH did an admirable job of teasing them out but the loss of Benny's voice was, imho, a definite absence. Especially at the point of HEA. Speaking of which, the denouement seemed slightly rushed and not as 'big' as I had expected. Quiet rather than loud. But perhaps that made it more poignant and maybe Im just being a grump because I wanted more. I'm greedy like that :)
So... All in all this was a serious sexy page-turner with emotions that were heartfelt starring two great characters you don't want to miss out on. Highly recommended.
Here, we get an opposites attract story. Benny is bubbly. He's understanding and forgiving.
Ezekiel - Zeke - is closed off and reserved.
Angry and judgemental.
And yet they fit. Whether they want to or not. Because Benny's boss and Zeke's father plays cupid because he apparently sees what they don't. They are determined in their refusal but they can be friends, kind of, right? so as a favour to the other when needed they fall into the fake boyfriend routine while in between becoming a friends with benefits sort of thing.
Until faking it isn't cutting it anymore.
And emotions come into play.
'Benny was supposed to be my diversion, not my lover. Not even my friend. Not the one person I trusted, admired, and wished like f... I was worthy of calling mine.'
I did not like Zeke. Then I did. But it was gradual. His anger aside, I'll get back to that in a sec, he seriously was judgemental and if I'm going to be completely honest, an inconsiderate jerk at times. I didn't see myself liking him at all and then we get to his anger, especially with his father and this is where it gets tricky. The first reaction to his anger is, "woah! Chill out, dude!" Because it's George! Georgeeeee! Everybody loves George!! But you have to take a step back and really look at it. And I did.
Here's the thing, family is tricky. The line between love and hate is very thin. So very thin. Even more so between a parent and a child depending on who you are. His anger wasn't always easy to read but I get it. Sure we should all let go and forgive but it's not even close to easy as the words claim. So yeah I got him, the need to hold onto that kind of anger. And eventually I did begin to like him, gradually, but I did. He is a great guy and he needed the right person. Needed Benny.
Oh and I approve of his grovelling.
“What do you want from me, Zeke?”
And onto Benny, I loved him. Fabulous, fierce and amazing. My heart did break for him though. He shows so much courage and that's even more apparent when we learn about his past and family. He's funny and sweet and smart. My love for him was consistent. Sigh. I'm so glad he got his HEA. I would've loved to see his relationship with his mother though.
I initially was hoping this would be from Benny's POV because I loved him in the previous book. That reason right there is probably why it's best that it wasn't from his, and was told through Zeke's POV instead; because I wouldn't of went on the journey of growth with Benny's character like I did with Zeke. I haven't had to fight to like a character in a while and I guess having to here just made the book better for me.
Friendship, family, growing as a person and falling in love. It's all here. Another win from Lane Hayes with relatable characters and phenomenal writing.
Also a visit or two from Rand and Will, what more do you want?
I can't wait to see who's next.
Carter, maybe? I hope so!
Zeke (or Ezekiel to his dad) meets catholic flamboyant blue streaked hair, Benny at a hospital when his dad collapses at his Bagel Shop. Was it love at first sight over the best bagels in New York? Not quite. But it is where the fun begins.......
And it was fun with a capital F. And sexy with a capital S. I just loved it, so all the stars from me.
And the portrayal of Miri. As a strong female character, she is wonderful and her illness is not often shown in this genre.
This is my opinion. I can totally see how people would enjoy this but not for me.
Zeke is a bit of a control freak who has to always be right.
Benny is a witty, funny and colourful guy (his hair and clothing is full of colour) who enjoys life.
Zeke and Benny are opposites but yet perfect for each other and their story is witty, adorable and a little bumpy but worth the ride.
