This and the other Tips book are great and invaluable guides to have as guidelines and information you may be wondering about. I will probably purchase others from this author eventually. He is down to earth in his descriptions and I like the simplicty of his explanations. It is like he knows his audience does not want any real technical jargon to get his points across to us.
Today I was skimming through my list of books and saw this book had an update (September 2015). After the quick download, I began looking through the book again and found new information. The update includes information for both first and second generation Kindles, and the author notes the differences for the benefit of all Kindle owners. for example, early on both the controls and displays are compared with the use of pictures, a desirable layout for readers (for those still using first generation devices, it also provides comparison with second generation Kindles, perhaps inspiring some of us to upgrade).
This quick review jogged my memory on a number of features, such as the cap lock, numbers shortcut, internal memory available, swype, and other helpful tips. I also found interesting the section on Overdrive Media, describing how to borrow digital content from libraries. For those who are interested, there are instructions on accessing your email as well as downloading videos and photos.
The book contains plenty of pictures, and icons are used to help readers immediately spot the Tips, Tricks, and Traps.
Recommended for new users as well as any folks feeling they are not getting everything out of their Kindle Fire that they could. Five stars.
When I purchased my Kindle Fire HD, I was ecstatic and ready to dive into it. Sadly though, I was facing a beautifully crafted tablet pc with no idea of how to operate it. So I purchased this guide for the tiny price of less than a cup of coffee. Only 99 cents. Worth then times that and I have it on my Kindle carousel, ready at my fingertips.
If you've just purchased a new kindle or have never really used any of the features of your kindle other than reading or a game then get this book. It will get you started in a good way. There are many tips, tricks, apps 4 free etc. There is also help with printing, other app uses, security, the camera I never used and much more. I found several things that I struggled with (like printing on a older printer via wireless). I was getting ready to get rid of my kindle bc of these things I had trouble with. It just seemed to be lacking but it was my own fault for not finding a book like this.
The library & document services is something I needed more experience with & it was explained in a way that I got it. I didn't know why overdrive was pre-installed on my kindle & now will use it. I didn't know how to use document services to help with pdf files that Amazon provides or how to use it. I could have found this one under the thousands of discussions for help with Kindle. I never had the time to do that. Who does? So many things had I known 8 months ago would have made me appreciate my kindle much more. Instead I lamented my purchase and used it only as a reader & browser. Well, now I'm using it for so much more.
Thank you Mr. Jones for the great service you've done. It will help many realize the kindle fire hd & hdx is not just an e-reader or for some games, it can be used productively as a tablet I can use easily use. I've had a tablet all along but didn't know it, lol. I wish I had gotten the one with more memory though but the cloud storage does help offset that. My many thanks & I recommend this book!
