As a published author of 6 hardcover/paperbook books in 6 languages (by major publishing houses) I can share that using Tom's approach very likely would have boosted my career as a speaker and trainer even faster and more effectively than becoming published the old school way and trying to get promotion for one's books.
This fellow has shared hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of proven insight (check out his bio at the end of the book and your jaw will drop). I cannot thank him enough for this gift to the rest of us but also look forward to whatever else he will write about on this topic.
I've read other similarly titled books but this one is very thorough and gets right down to what
you need to know without the fluff. Cheers!
This book is exhaustive in its reach and the resources Tom includes are extensive. There is enough information here to help anyone get started. Some of the terms may be a little daunting for a complete Newbie to the Internet but the book is written in a style that doesn't talk down to the complete novice and you get the feeling that here is a guy that knows his chops and is getting a buzz about teaching his licks!
This is not a book that you can read from cover to cover in one sitting there is just so much to take in.Tom has been around the Internet block since 1993 and he is without doubt someone to listen to and learn from. Amazing experience especially after reading 17 Kindle How-To books over a weekend. You'll need plenty of coffee and a comfortable chair.Thank you for a wonderful book!
The thing I like about it, besides being incredibly easy to use, is that it is extremely comprehensive: questions are answered about Kindle, there are suggestions about the actual mechanics of creating the document/file, one is walked through every step in the Kindle sign up and submit process, as well as how to promote and sell and where - wow, so many resources! EVERYTHING IS COVERED. I repeat, nothing I need to know as a future Kindle author is left out. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It's like I have a friend holding my hand throughout the whole process.
I am very strict about the number of stars I give for my reviews as you'll see if you take the time to read my reviewer's profile, but this is definitely a 5 star product, and the price is incredible!!
I had not met Tom prior to that show and I had never heard of the Internet, and frankly I wasn't overly excited that I drew the short straw and had to do that interview. All that changed immediately as we began to talk. Tom has a way of making people understand technology and he was energized as he explained how this global communication network had the potential to change our world. The more he spoke, the more excited I got as I was being introduced to a whole new world of possibilities.
A lifelong friendship was begun that day and Tom and I have collaborated on different Internet projects over the years even though we live 2,000 miles away from each other. I bought his last two books and must have shared them with a dozen of my business associates. When Tom told me he was writing this book to help people navigate through the self-publishing maze, I got excited again because I have been playing with a book idea for a while, and his timing was spot-on again. I remember him saying that writing a book was the easy part, the real work is the promotion piece that comes after the book is finished.
Most of us are not technology experts. Sure, we may use Facebook and watch YouTube videos, but few of us know what is needed to use those resources as promotional tools. Tom's explanation of the marketing piece is what's missing from most of the other how-to books or author websites I've seen. The advice he shares about YouTube alone is worth the cost of hiring Tom at his normal consulting fees. At $3.99 this book is a steal and I predict will be the salvation of many new authors.
The book itself was well written and edited. It was an easy read, but one you will want to go back over several times to pick up what you missed before. There are many really great references and resources. It was encouraging without being "pie in the sky" hyperbole.
I am glad that I read this book now, as I am in the beginning phases of self-publishing. It made me aware of many things now so I do not have to learn them the hard way later on.
