Vicky is a likable character, and there were several times she surprised me at how well she dealt with situations which were unexpected, and the skills that she learned from when she was younger which proved to be useful. As for Darien, I loved reading about him as well. He's a vampire, and the oldest in the area at 900 years old. It's apparent the two have a lot of chemistry between them, and it's going to be interesting to see how their relationship evolves. The secondary character that grabbed my attention though is Eliot, another vampire.
As a whole, I thought all the main characters were realistic and felt three dimensional. While this book does end in a cliffhanger, I found that I really enjoyed the book and plan on reading the sequel. My rating is 4/5 platypires.
It was a very easy read, and while it didn't have me gripping to read more, I did enjoy reading a few chapters each night before bed, so on those terms I'd recommend it.
A lot of other reviewers sum up the plot pretty well. Powerful vampire businessman and young assistant who will do anything for him, which was fine and even if predictable, still can make a good story. I liked that Vicky didn't fall at Darien's feet just because he's good looking. She seemed to have herself well grounded. However, the emotional content of the book fell flat. I just couldn't feel anything with Vicky. She seemed very one-dimensional to me. Darien's character was the same in that aspect. Again, I just couldn't feel anything with him either. Overall, that's why I rated this book as "okay" only, hence 3 stars.
