|New from||Used from|
“Kindred Souls is a wonderful love story that opens to public view a fascinating chapter in Eleanor Roosevelt’s life. Edna Gurewitsch has re-created Eleanor’s last years with such remarkable empathy and such deep intuition that it seems as if Eleanor is alive once more.” —Doris Kearns Goodwin, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Team of Rivals
“A sensitive and astute portrait of a ‘rare and precious friendship’ . . . Edna’s gracious and involving account of the last chapter in Eleanor’s remarkably full life deepens understanding and appreciation of Eleanor Roosevelt, a woman of exceptional spirit, intelligence, and compassion.” —Booklist, starred review “A perfectly pitched and insightful account . . . A love story of rare quality: intelligent, wise, and, above all, generous in spirit and understanding.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred review

Eleanor Roosevelt needed someone to love who actually loved her back but also supported her and sympathized with her deepest feelings. David Gurewitsch was in need at the same time of this emotional strength that very few people have.
The strength that Mrs. Roosevelt had, encompassed all whom she loved. She was truly a magnanimous force for her family, friends and the US. She had such great energy and intellect that she couldn’t help but share it with so many. She affected so many, it’s a very interesting read about this amazing woman.
The more you read this book, the more you will know Mrs. Roosevelt.
WELL APPARENTLY AS WE REMEMBER HER AS A RATHER HOMELY WOMAN. BUT SHE WAS ONE OF A BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER.
SHE FELT UNLOVED BY FATHER AND HUSBAND BUT THE DOCTOR AND SHE WERE SOUL MATES I LOVED THE STORY AND MY FRIEND THOUGHT IT WAS MUCH TOO SAD.
I AM A LONG TIME ADMIRER OF THIS WOMAN WHO DID SO MUCH FOR THE WORLD.
This was a very enjoyable read, made even more enjoyable by last summer's visit to Val-Kill, Mrs. Roosevelt's Hyde Park retreat while first lady and country home in retirement. The home is as modest as its former owner. As the author described Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas get-togethers, lunches and picnics, etc., I was able to fully visualize the setting, thanks to the visit.
The abiding friendship that developed among the three of them was remarkable in its simplicity and warmth. I feel that I know the essence of Mrs. Roosevelt so much better. A book to recommend to friends, for sure!
A most pleasant and interesting read from first page to last.
