This 'book' is really a short story. The story it's self is sixty-two pages. The rest is the first chapter of another book by another author. So I'm going to make this review short and sweet.
Rainbow Rowell is one of my favorite authors. Although I am not a big short story reader, I wanted to read 'Kindred Spirits' because of that. It's basically about a girl name 'Elena' and her experience standing in line waiting for a 'Star Wars' movie but she gets in line like three days in advance and there are only two other people in line.
It follows a premise that I have often thought was interesting. Sometimes you meet people by happenstance and never see them again but for a short time they were a part of your life.
Also, this story is hilarious. I laughed every-time Elena's mother drove by I also loved the idea of 'line rules'. Although, it says on the cover, for 'older readers' this could also be a young adult story.
“Everybody likes Star Wars,” he said. “Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.” This is not the first time I have read this author books. I love them, they speak to my nerdy side. I was lying in bed reading this book last night holding in giggles and started telling my husband about this book. His response was "the author must know you and is writing books specifically for you." After finishing this book I have to agree with him. My only complaint is how short it was but alas it is called a short story. I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves Star Wars or just want a good giggle. As always I want more Rainbow and I want more of the characters in this book. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
This novella is SO WORTH IT. Being that I was a huge fan of the series when I was a child (and still am!) this book speaks directly to my fangirl heart. I only wish that it had been longer! Rainbow is brilliant at creating characters that you can instantly relate with and want to know more about. At the same time I was satisfied with this story and felt like it was wrapped up in a neat package. Elena and Gabe are characters worth their meddle and I hope that the Resistance will recruit them as worthy warriors into the heart of the Star Wars dogma. I would give it 4.5 stars, nay, light-sabers! Jump into hyper-drive with this novella!
