Goodbye RSI

So I'm finally writing a review about 2 months after buying the Kinesis. It admittedly took me forever to get comfortable typing on and my WPM is still a little slower than on a regular keyboard. That being said, the issues with my hands have since gone away and I now love the keyboard.

I'm a professional software engineer who uses VIM (Or Vim plugins in Atom/Visual Studio) and it was a bit of a struggle getting used to navigating again. The keyboard will surely punish your bad habits (That you may not even realize you have). I was a "touch typist" on my old keyboard but I never noticed some of the odd things I would do like cross over and press Y or N with my left hand or T or B with my right.

Most reviews stated it took 2 weeks to get used to and for me it was more like a month and a half. I would use the keyboard for about 2 hours per day at first before getting frustrated at my lack of productivity and switching back to my regular keyboard. I slowly increased the amount of time I would spend on it until I was finally using it 100% of the time.

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase but I would forewarn potential buyers, be prepared for a considerable adjustment period.

This keyboard changed my life.
I'm in IT and I like to play games as well so I pretty much live in front of my computer so when I started to get RSI I started looking for a better keyboard mouse combo. This keyboard is amazing, I love it so much, it's one of my favorite things I own. I have had it now for almost a year and it's still going strong. :) I thought about where the keys would be when I hit buy and when it arrived it wasn't all that difficult for me to get the hang of using it. I love the fact that most of the often used buttons are for my thumb instead of my poor little finger. I'm using it right now and it's the only thing I ever type on. Now the pain from RSI is still sometimes present, but only when I've worked a lot and then went home and played games for two weeks or so in a row, So much better!!
Thank you Kinesis for making my life better because with this and lots of stretching and wrist exercises I have hardly any pain anymore!

Expensive but worth it!

I'm a Systems Engineer and do a lot of technical writing & programming, spending 10+ hours a day typing. A couple of months ago my elbows/forearms got so sore when typing at my desk I was unable to do any typing for longer than a couple minutes. I figured the issue was RSI considering how much typing I've done in my life. This keyboard was part of my solution to the issue. I bought a Kinesis Keyboard, Evoluent Mouse, dictation software, keyboard tray, and a whole new desk/office setup. There was some annoyance getting used to the new layout (No middle spacebar, arrow keys split, brackets/curly braces moved to the bottom on right hand). But, as another reviewer stated... give it 2 weeks.

I'll never go back to regular keyboards/mice again, not only because my arms are feeling MUCH better but because switching back to the old layout is extremely annoying!

This keyboard is expensive, I genuinely dislike how much it costs.... That being said, I'm probably still going to order another one along with an Evoluent mouse for my second system and am still rating it 5 stars. It's just that good.

As an aside, from my experience, I can't stress enough the importance of also having an adjustable keyboard tray and ergonomic mouse if you're having issues with computer related RSI. As I stated above, I've been very happy with the keyboard... but if I didn't have those other 2 things as well my recovery probably wouldn't be going so swimmingly.

I ended up getting another one of these keyboards for my 2nd system. My arms were starting to ache when using a standard keyboard, even for a short period of time (10 minutes). Now I've got a Kinesis (and Evoluent mouse) for both systems and am working on both systems pain-free. Once again, I reiterate from my experience... if you're going to be using a keyboard for many hours a day you need to have an ergonomic keyboard, mouse, & keyboard tray. I also found the OSHA Ergonomic Solutions check-list; highly suggest analysing your home-office workspace. I have done the same and made myself compliant, and am happier/healthier because of it. A Google search on OSHA Ergonomic solutions checklist brought it to the top of the search results.
