How it Works
inRide Sensor Technology
Pre-installed on the Rock and Roll | Smart, inRide sensor technology allows riders to connect to the Kinetic Fit app and begin a power training program. No additional on-bike sensors are needed, only a smart device that supports apps and the Bluetooth Smart communication protocol.

Built Like No Other Trainer
A Lifetime Warranty
Kinetic trainer frames are built to be the most durable in the industry. Some might call them overbuilt, but we are fine with that. We expect them to provide you with a lifetime of use.
Durabilitly Sets Us Apart From The Competition
Every frame is made from tig welded, powdercoated steel. Every structural part is made of either steel or aluminum. The elastomer pivot points on the Rock and Roll are also designed for a lifetime of use and made of the same material used used in suspension bushings for high performance cars.
Ergonomic Touch Points
Kinetic's trainer knobs and feet are made of ABS plastic overmolded with rubber for better ergonomics, grip, and durability. Feet are also rubberized for better grip.

If you are a serious rider who is looking to train when a full on outdoor ride is not available or desired, or if you are a recreational rider wanting to stay on your bike for a workout, this is a great choice and in my opinion worth the investment. The ability to come off the saddle and pedal with a "rock and roll" motion is a real plus. In addition, if you have a friend or family member who has never been on a road bike, this is a great way to give them a basic feel for riding.
Putting a bike on the trainer is very simple and actually easier than my old trainer. You just have to make sure the wheel is centered on the roller. My wife has a bike too and swapping the bikes out is no sweat for me. Maybe one day we will get another one.
This model is a bit bigger than a typical trainer, so you do have to account for that in your workout space. It is easy to put together and shift around.
Quickly becoming the star of the show is the Kinetic App - in the time I've had the trainer they have updated this app a few times. It provides great data and motivation through either just letting you do a free ride or a pre-set workout. They recently updated it to allow more (paid) access to Sufferfest videos if you are interested in that. I just use the free version of the app and have enjoyed it a lot. There are still a few bugs here and there but they seem to be updating it fairly regularly. I emailed the support team for the App with a feature question (Apple Watch heart rate tracking) and they responded in a business day (it sounds like they are working on that feature, but most other heart rate monitors currently work).
Overall, I think the Rock and Roll Smart does a great job of simulating being outside, providing an engaging ride and giving useful and motivating data through the Kinetic App. The accessories I would suggest for this would be the Kinetic Turntable Riser and the Kinetic Pro Flywheel (just got the Flywheel recently and it seems to help the ride be even more realistic/challenging, but it is not necessary to enjoy the ride).
Quick background for the basis of this review - Ive been a roadie for nearly 15 years, but have been fortunate to live in places that I didn't NEED to ride indoors (Tucson and Scottsdale). I was fast and rode thousands of miles a year...However, in 2008 moved to Boulder, CO and then to Breckenridge shortly after. Drastic change to the annual mileage!
I did the obligatory thing and purchased 2 other popular brands of fluid trainers – the 2nd hoping it wouldn’t be miserable...Unfortunately, I despised the thought of having to get on the trainer.
Everything changed early this year when I broke my leg in April backcountry skiing (spiral fibula/complete ligament separation). In addition to losing the remainder of the ski season, I was couch-bound for nearly 8 weeks post-surgery. I was cleared to ride a trainer 3 weeks after surgery.
Here is where the R&R smart trainer comes in - this thing is by far the best investment Ive ever made related to indoor fitness! Not only did I NOT hate the 3-4 weeks on the trainer post-op, I'm looking forward to being able to get many hours on the bike this winter on a trainer.
