One thing i will note on the con end of things, the game is alright to ugly in certain areas. The backgrounds are really well done, but half the cast looks a bit off or alright, this game could of been a ps3 game, and a early one at that. I personally loved how 13 looked so i think this was a downgrade in the long run, but i guess the trade off was that it didnt take so long to develop (because i remember hearing the HD sprite system from 13 took forever) so we got 50 characters, and ill be real, ill take a downgraded graphics to get 50 compared to the 16 in sf5 which looks better, but lacking in roster.
Other thing to note is the online is night and day compared to 13, if you are playing with a good connection between both players there is hardly any lag at all. Ive been playing online with one of my friends and neither of us has had any issues over the 4 or so hours we've played.
As this is the first featuring 3D models on a 2D field, many old school fans are having a bit of an issue adjusting. Not a big deal for me, getting used to this sort of idea.
First of all this is basically classic KoF. Some of the features being presented as new, are not all that new. Max Mode is activated slightly differently and EX Specials can now only be used in Max Mode. EX Supers on the other hand do not require Max Mode. I think this was to help reduce some of the crazy combos that could be done in King of Fighters XIII. However many combos do massive damage with fewer hits. Evasion rolls are still in, dash, and many staples of fighting games at this point.
So let us get into the meat of the game. As far as being nice to beginners the Auto Combo from hitting just Light Punch is a pretty nice feature. King of Fighters though has had a very forgiving buffer for quite a few years now. I think this is where all the fighting games sort of mess up. This actually does not create the even playing field that one might expect. It just means pros have more tools to hit with. Also LP auto combo only works from standing close. Makes new players very obvious when they go for it. Also very predictable.
So you have Trial Mode. Trial Mode is great for this game. It teaches you five simple combos for every character. Do not worry if you cannot complete all of them. Completing a full set does not unlock anything. It is mostly to your benefit if you are new and want to learn the basics for each character. Completing 2 for every character will unlock a silver trophy. You only need to complete 100 trials in other words.
My issue with the game. I guess I got spoiled from games like Mortal Kombat, Tekken, King of Fighters XIII and Street Fighter V. There was so much story surrounding the characters. In this one you get the hints of that, but many new characters I know little to nothing about. Even beating Story Mode multiple times, I really only know the endings for many of the new characters. I would really like a background story add-on for this game that gives me story information about each of the characters. This game does hint as to why Mature and Vice are back, but it also hints to many other possible characters returning and I will not go into it for spoiler reasons.
This game also has Online, Online Training Mode, Survival and Time Mode. If you really enjoy fighting games and/or King of Fighters, this is a great buy. If you are a newcomer, this one is also pretty good and fairly easy to pick up.
Another thing it comes with is the music album the front cover being Mai the cover was enough for me but when you open it there will be 3 CDs with their own tracks together having around 62 songs .
As for the game it self it was complete no DLC no nothing I absolutely loved it from New to old characters this game is very easy to pick up on the moves aren't to hard to learn and you can button mash or basically learn combos and techniques that suit you and your playing style the graphics are amazing and the arenas in the game are very nice this is one of the best fighting games and if you are looking for a fighting game that will keep you entertained for hours this is your game whether it's a gift for your kids , gift for your boyfriend / Girlfriend or you just plan on getting it yourself this is a fighting game that I'm sure anyone will enjoy .
