I’ve loved every album from FA so far so I knew I’d like King. I was NOT expecting an album that was leaps and bounds ahead of everything they’d done before. FA started as a brutal death metal band with classical influence on their stellar debut Oracles. Then on the next album Agony the band started using heavy orchestration much to many fans dismay. But not to mine. The third album Labyrinth came out and it was a natural progression from Agony. A lot of people felt the ball had been dropped in the production dept. I really didn’t mind it..until I heard the sonic excellence that is the new album King.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band get better by album four. Most bands peak with albums 1-3. But not this band. It takes the utter brutality of Oracles, melds it perfectly with the most advanced orchestration the band has ever done. The clean vocals which have always been a little too over the top for me have been reigned in greatly to stellar effect. The guy always had great pipes but he overused them. On the song In Aeternum his vocals are beautiful and add SO much to the song. I look forward to his cleans in the future as long as he keeps it in check. He still hams it up in The Fool but I can live with it. The drumming which has always been insanely fast has also been reigned in with great effect. Not that King is any less punishing than its predecessors. Quite the contrary. With increased dynamics between fast and slow the band is more brutal than ever.

The songwriting all around is simply leaps and bounds over anything the band has ever done. Not one weak song on the disc and the orchestral disc is icing on the cake. The cover art is gorgeous.

And lastly the production.

This is the FA album against which all future albums will be judged. Redefines epic in it's gorgeous brutality. Buy this and listen to it as loud as possible on the best speakers or headphones you own. Get ready for a trip.

There are too many 5 star misleading reviews on Amazon. This is not one of them. This new record is a giant leap forward for a band that has already redefined what death metal can be. Actually, labeling them death metal is just stupid. They transcend genre classification. The fact that the album comes with the standalone orchestral arrangements is only further proof of their compositional prowess. I don't like long reviews. Best way to review it is to listen for yourself. You won't be disappointed. If you are, maybe amazing, epic, mind bending, heart rending metal isn't your bag.

King is truly the band's Magnum Opus. The band's first two efforts are some of my all time favorite death metal albums, and King is easily the band's best work. The songs are all so grand and epic. They are somehow able to seamlessly blend technical and brutal death metal and an absolutely stunning score. I also loved the use of the opera singer choral parts that only added to the beauty of this album. The production is perfect. Every instrument has it's own place in the mix. This album isn't just one of my favorite death metal albums, it's one of my favorite music albums period.
I give this album five stars because I honestly don't know how this could be any better

My first Fleshgod album and I love it. I am not the type that normally listens to classical style music, but it mixes perfectly with metal in this album and I even find myself listening to the classic style tracks at the end.

This is metal perfection! I was a huge fan of Agony, but while I enjoyed Labyrinth it didn't quite have the same impact as Agony. This made me a bit iffy about King. This is one of those albums that makes you go 'wow' like when you first heard awesome metal as a kid. Once you get past the brief opening symphonic track, you get hit in the face by 'In Aeternum,' which is epic. The metal heart of this album is brilliant. There are a few extraneous pieces for the adventurous music lover out there, like the tracks 'Paramour' and 'King.' While these are beautiful songs, I'm just not into opera so I uncheck them on iTunes. This is a must-have album.

One of only a handful of albums in the past decade I love from start to finish, no matter how many times I listen to it. Every track is phenomenal, Healing Through War and Syphilis particularly so. Fleshgod Apocalypse, great as they were before, really perfected their style with King.

Behold the new album King by the Italian masters of symphonic/orchestra death metal!! What an album it is!! Bombastic, grand, and epic!
King is the bands 4th full length album, and it feels like a natural evolution for the band. The album hits hard. It's dark, inspiring, doomy, and very heavy!! Finally an album of theirs with crystal-clear production!! The album is a grower for sure, as there is alot goin on here and to be digested. The riffs seem relatively basic, and a little more restrained this time, but all the instruments enveloped together, and with all the fine details, and excellent orchestration sweeps and flourishes. The clean vocals, which some of us felt were a little over the top, and maybe missing the mark a bit, should be pleased with how refined they are now. If you like the band, you should very much like the album, and if you're not familiar with the band...
Check them out already!!
For fans of bands like Septic Flesh and Behemoth.
