This is certainly not a book for the reader with a passing interest in the period or the subject. It is an utterly mind-blowing tour de force of the politicians, political groupings, constitutional concerns during the reign of George III. Pares' complete grasp of the events and description (with incredible footnotes) of the machinations of a vast array of politicians, parties (if that's what they were) and monarch beggars belief. Some of his thoughts and conclusions may have been overtaken by more recent research, but for the enthusiastic delver into 18thC and early 19thC political life it is an investment worth making.
