Guy Sillars has just left the army at 28 years old to deal with some personal issues back in Texas when he decides to go out in New York with his army friend Lorenzo Morelli. Lorenzo brings him to a nightclub and it is there where he meets Frankie and is instantly enchanted by her.
Frankie decides to concoct a plan where she pretends to have a boyfriend, Guy, in order to make her dad release her the money but soon she wonders whether this plan will work as she begins to have feelings for Guy.
As Guy and Frankie begin to grow closer the plan is jeopardized and when secrets about Guy's past come out everything could be destroyed.
I love Guy and how he pushes Frankie into believing she is capable and good enough to make her dreams come true! The DiDominzio family has many secrets within that I'm sure will come out in the next books and I anticipate many tears to come!! This book was a great introduction to the family and I love Frankie's determination of not giving up her dreams!!
Lyssa Layne is an new author I discovered over the summer and she is a one click author for me. Her stories are heartwarming and give you all sorts of feels.
The King and the Pawn is book one of a new series about the DiDominzio's. I love an Italian family story and was thrilled to know Ms. Layne was giving us a whole series.
Francesca DiDominzio is the baby of the family. She is beautiful, talented and strong headed. Frankie loss her mother a few years back and has an over protective, traditional Italian father who feels his daughter is in dreamland when it involves her career.
Guy Sillars is a military sargent who recently returns to the states with one of his buddies and decides to stay a few days before heading home. His buddy, Lorenzo introduces Frankie to Guy. I enjoy the way their story took off. Guy is a tall drink of southern water. Everything he said and did was in true Texas fashion.
This is a quick read that will get you in the spirit of the holidays.
Francesca Di Dominzio is an inspiring fashion designer. She comes from a big Italian family. When she has an opportunity to take over her boss’s business, she needs money to pay him. After asking her father for her trust fund early to use as payment, he says no. He doesn’t think her dream of fashion design is a valid one. He is “old school” and believes she should just get married to an Italian guy and be a good wife.
Francesca comes up with an idea to have her friend Lorenzo’s Army sergeant, Guy, become her “fake boyfriend”. She thinks she might convince her father to give her the money by getting him angry. What starts as a fake relationship soon becomes a real one. Guy and Francesca take their relationship to the next level and fall in love with each other.
I really liked the way the family interacted with each other. They each looked out for the other. It was also great how Guy wanted to help Francesca since he had an immediate attraction to her. He was very supportive and didn’t mind putting his life on hold to help her.
I am looking forward to reading more about this family as more stories are written!
