This stone works great, I had to use my "flattening stone" to grind off the markings on the top before it was useable. This is how I make a "flattening stone" for less than $10 and it works great

Get a piece of 1'x1' or larger glass from the picture frame section of the hardware store ($3) Then get some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper ($5) Now soak the sandpaper in water for 10-20 minutes before using and then just set the wet sandpaper on top of the glass. Capillary action will keep the sand paper from moving and you can very quickly re-flatten your stone every time you use it. This stone is very soft compared to my Japanese kitchen knives and so it grinds away and creates small pockets fairly quickly. That is why you should flatten it every time before you use it but it is very easy to flatten as well.

P.S.
This is the exact stone that Master Bladesmith Murray Carter uses in his YouTube video titled "Razor Sharpening"

I am a sushi chef and I sharpen my knives on regular basis. 1000 grit stone that I have has been doing the job quite nicely for years. Only problem is that over time my knives will be sharp enough to do the job but started to lose the shine they once had. This stone will put a mirror-like polish on your blade and that extra fine honing that we all can appreciate.

The size and price of this stone is just about right. It's not a big stone by any means but I'm sure it will last me a few years since I'll only be using it for final polishing.

Only problem I have with this stone is that they printed their King logo and "made in Japan" right on the polishing surface. They definitely interfere with doing the job. After few uses I can see that they will wear out soon but I still think that it wasn't appropriate for them to put the logos right on top surface. My other stone had small ones on the side of the stone and that was no problem at all

Great stone for final polish. Comes mounted to a plastic no skid base. I have used it on several knives already and it will smooth all tiny scratches from the 1000 grit stone and leave you with a very smooth polish that if done correctly is very very sharp. I mean split a frog hair three ways sharp.
The first one I ordered was damaged. I returned to Amazon. It much easier than if I had bought locally, then drive to a local store and try to convince their part time help to refund my money.

If you know how to use a whetstone this will make your a happy customer. Works just as well as Norton for half the price, but you need to know how to take care of and use it. FYI slurry is a good thing.

I bought these to sharpen woodworking tools and replace my Norton stones that were worn down. These cut very well and I like the way they feel much better than the Norton stones that I had previously. Using the King 1000 followed by a 6000 and a leather strop I get a mirror shine. I will be King stones for my sharpening needs going forward (especially for the price).

I'm not an expert sharpener, but this is well made and maybe the best value out there. The emblem is slick so makes that part of the stone useless until it possibly wears away. My emblem is still there.

Im unsure if I got a bad stone, but this didn't perform like a 6000 grit stone.

I used a machinist block to flatten the surface, and exposed a large internal crack. Not a huge deal, but the crack got worse and worse The farther I went down. It was almost like an internal defect of the stone (which happens), but that alone was a deal breaker.

That said, I was still willing to use this for chisel sharpening, as I dont need the whole stone for that. The performance of this stone was laughable. Getting a slurry was difficult, and it was almost like it had deposits of other minerals or something embedded in the stone, leaving awful scratches and streaks in the metal.

Returned for full refund, and purchased a different king 6000 grit stone which performs far superior to this one.

I've been using King S stones for years. These things are great but you need to use light pressure. They gouge very easily. But these are the only finishing stone I will ever buy. When you wear one out, buy another. It's worth it.
