"If Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams had a baby, it would look a lot like 'King of the Worlds.' With its tongue-in-cheek humor and intelligent allusions, this is the kind of fiction that playfully reassembles tropes and rejects all labels. It's a dark riot." -- Mindy-Lynn Sanico, Honolulu Star-Advertiser
Dylan Greenyears’ story is so full of humanity that the otherworldly dimensions, alien characters and alternate histories become a well-made container for the breadth and scope of our most keen longings. Effortlessly original, sharply drawn, comically wise, King of the Worlds launches the reader across the cosmos on a hilariously tormented and seriously fun adventure.” A.A. Attanassio, author Radix and The Last Legends of Earth
Smart, sharp and funny. A dazzling tour of the multiverse.” Robert Onopa, author of The Pleasure Tube and 2020
King of the Worlds is an amazingly imaginative, whirling performance of a novel, at turns firmly grounded and absurd, hilarious and heartbreaking. M. Thomas Gammarino is not like other writers. And that’s a good thing: there’s so much energy, madness and intelli- gence in this book...a thrill and a joy to read.” Peter Mountford, author of The Dismal Science and A Young Man’s Guide to Late Capitalism
"...hints of other greats like Kurt Vonnegut and David Foster Wallace...represent some of the funnest aspects of a novel that takes its fun pretty seriously...It's almost like looking back in time to a literary landscape that is long gone now. Or maybe into the future." Art Edwards, Entropy Magazine

There are some real laugh out loud moments and ingenious phrase twists that will make you grin in admiration for this talented writer, but you may also curse him a bit, as his male protagonists are generally very well developed but not very likeable, and the female characters are apparently intentionally one-dimensional. You won't confuse Gammarino with Hemingway or Hunter S. Thompson, but you may find a similar macho view of the world, one which is not very evident in current fiction. A more apt comparison would be Kurt Vonnegut, or perhaps Michael Faber's recent novel, "The Book of Strange New Things". I even think that Poe is a macabre influence.
Gammarino is not afraid to break the tiresome tradition of authors who wrap up a story with a neartly packaged and happy conclusion. He takes risks and weaves the reader with a less comfortable and gritty narrative that is full of unforseeable twists. His ideal reader is well informed and curious, but still may need to look up esoteric terms like "eschatological" or "panspermist", and I'd be willing to wager that although there are only scant references to legends like Jim Morrison (as portrayed by Val Kilmer, which Gammarino seems to realize is the mental image that most people under 50 have of The Doors front man), that the author has a sharp ear for good music because of the unique and unpredictable tempo of the story.
I will not reveal much of this book's recipe, but suffice it to say that it contains healthy doses of unique story line, abstract concepts of science, as well as religious controversy and a little kinky sex.
