Encourages us to stand for peace and love in our world rather than
the eye for an eye reaction. Very good.
"There is such a thing as a state, as a nation; there is the abstract conception of a man; but humanity as a concrete idea does not, and cannot exist."
"Humanity is a fiction"
yes folks he says this. this book is total ****. He even goes on to ask the ever compelling question of why don't we include animals in the definition of humanity....yes folks he wants to know why our good friend the ape is not included when we talk about humanity. poor apes.
he harps on about thou shalt not kill and resist not evil. fair enough, they are in the bible, but he ignores the entire old testament, he ignores the acts of the apostles, he literally cherry picks a phrase here and there from Jesus and somehow has the meaning of life and how to achieve peace.
the flaw in resist not evil is Jesus would be the very definition, the standard of resisting evil, and of course Jesus being famous for parable speak should tell any student of the bible that anything Jesus says probably has a hidden meaning or two. He at one point claims all we know about churches is from the two references to churches in book of matthew. He even goes on to just out right pretend the miracles of Jesus are not part of the story, he basically calls them total nonsense. Which leave that claim as it maybe, but if we are going to talk about Jesus and His teachings, the miracles are a vital part of that or we can do as the author does and pretend they do not exist because ya know agenda and propaganda.
so we have a man who claims to know how to achieve peace by using the bible's teachings, while ignoring 99% of the bible except for a handful of verses. add in endless philosophical rambling from point to point, and we have what can be called a book that should be burned. but alas I am working my way through it because my idiot teacher thought this was a good book to have a test on. I'd rate this negative stars if i could.
bottom line, if you are going to follow the ways and teachings of Jesus follow ALL OF THEM, not just one of them. Yes even the miracles, go study them, there are no shortage of them. Maybe they do actually exist, either way if you are going to follow after Jesus you should at least consider and ponder ALL OF HIS TEACHINGS AND WORKS....not just one.
