Editorial Reviews

Review

''Bryan Litfin combines his vivid imagination with his knowledge of theology, history, literature, geography, ancient languages, and even apothecary (!) to give us a marvelous book about 'a mysterious book.' The Kingdom is more than a fascinating, enjoyable, quick read; it is also a great story about The Great Story - 'Iesus, the Pierced One'and his past, present, and future church. Three cheers for this final volume in the trilogy!''
- Douglas Sean O'Donnell, Senior Pastor, New Covenant Church, Naperville, Illinois; author, God's Lyrics and The Beginning and End of Wisdom

''In the darkness of Chiveis, where hope is a rare commodity, some dare to believe the promises of the sacred text. The adventure that follows not only grips your imagination, it also enriches your faith.''
- Chris Castaldo, Director, Ministry of Gospel Renewal, Billy Graham Center

''The Chiveis Trilogy concludes with yet another page-turner, full of action, adventure, suspense, intrigue, and inspiration. Litfin's deep love for Scripture, reflected in his characters' passionate pursuit of the Sacred Writings, can't help but challenge and inspire readers to treasure their own Bibles and read them more often!''
- Christin Ditchfield conference speaker; syndicated radio host, Take It To Heart, author, A Family Guide to Narnia

''Bryan Litfin's writing is colorful, witty, and engaging. The story of Chiveis is compelling and rich. The beautiful gospel themes constantly remind me of the wonder of the True God and the power of his Word. This last installment of the Chiveis Trilogy concludes the adventures of Teo and Ana with heart racing and mind stirring pace and resolution. This is indeed the work of an artist and theologian.''
- Jay Thomas, Senior Pastor, Chapel Hill Bible Church, Chapel Hill, NC

''The climatic conclusion of Bryan Litfin's Chiveis Trilogy does not disappoint. With his mastery of language, Litfin brings to life the struggles of Teo and Ana as they reintroduce God to a post-apocalyptic world that has forgotten Him. The cunning and captivating plot is layered with deep currents of real everyday Christian struggles. It is a thrilling novel that captured my imagination and challenged my soul.''

I stumbled upon Bryan Litfin's Chiveis trilogy almost by accident just before "The Gift" (book two) was released, and was hooked from the very beginning. The author presents a very believable account of a hypothetical post-modern world, and what how they choose to deal with their spiritual destiny. From beautiful valleys, to snow-capped Alpine peaks; from stormy seas, to a volcanic peak: "The Kingdom" (along with the previous two books in the series) will take you to a world that seems fantastical, but also has the sense of being very familiar.

Mr. Litfin presents a tale where I felt as if I was growing emotionally and spiritually with the main characters as the narrative progresses. Cliffhangers and surprises abound, but the author does not use them flippantly simply to keep a reader turning pages. The exciting sections of "The Kingdom" keep the reader's adrenaline elevated, but the character building parts of this novel truly shine. Ana and Teo are two well developed protagonists that are every bit human; with similar desires, temptations, courage, and love.

In my opinion, Bryan Litfin's character depictions and landscape settings are as good as any author in the past 100 years. Truthfully, I feel like I could visit some of the places described in "The Kingdom." It is definitely apparent that the author has!

The Christian elements of the novel are superb. The author's theological and Biblical education and experience are very apparent, without making the reader feel overwhelmed. I love the emphasis on the preservation of God's Word, as well as the Holy Spirit's drawing of the characters towards the Word. Though I disagree with some of the the book's ecclesiastical aspects, I can say that they are very consistent.

The only real part of "The Kingdom" where I was disappointed was reaching the end. I have truly enjoyed "The Kingdom", and the Chiveis trilogy as a whole, and am even look forward to it being expanded upon some day.

The Chiveis Trilogy, I believe, should be considered a Christian classic. This is one very beautiful story. I had the joy of reading it one book after the other, having waited until all three were published. Litfin is a master storyteller. I look forward to more of his work now that he has shown us what he is capable of in this trilogy.

His characters are very believable, relational, not two dimensional. You will find yourself totally absorbed in the two main characters, Teo and Ana, but also the lesser dominant characters. There is so much more to love about this trilogy. Litfin describes the post modern world very well, throughout all three books you are transported to a medieval world and it is a world that is exciting, rich in its daily life, its people and its religion.

It is against this backdrop that Litfin has developed a wonderful story of God's grace, salvation, spiritual warfare, mercy and redemption. Teo and Ana discover an ancient book that belonged in the "Ancient" world as they call it. Their world is growing increasing disillusioned in the current religion of worshipping the three gods of their world. Teo and Ana begin to see these gods as tyrants and once they find this ancient book, which is the Bible, they are set on a quest to know the God of this book more and this pits them against the wrath of the gods, mainly Astrebril, who is satan as we know him. The high Priestess of Chiveis, learns about the discovery of the Bible and sets out to stop it from being distributed amoung Chiveis. She has her own copy of the Bible and knows the message and the One True God.

The trilogy thus follows the quest of Teo and Ana to reintroduce Christianism (we know it as Christianity) to Chiveis.

I had been waiting weeks for the third book to come out and wow I wasn't disappointed. This was a fantastic trilogy; however I wish it would continue. If you are looking for something to read that's clean, Christian and Fantasy all rolled into one, then give this trilogy a chance.

I loved the 1st 2 books, but this book honestly became a little silly. How many life or death situations can Teo save Ana from in 1 book. She has to be the most cursed character ever. Everytime I turned a page she was being kidnapped, attacked, or about to be sacrificed. If this book stood alone, I would give it 2 stars, but since the 1st 2 books hooked me and left me wanting more, then this did deliver a fitting ending.

The trilogy as a whole was really good based on the 1st 2 books, but as I read this book it simply became hard to believe. Yes, I know it is fiction, but once you buy into the premise of the book, you want the rest to be at least somewhat believable. Teo always showing up at the VERY last second to save her so many times from her unbelievable bad fortune and Teo being so unstoppable in battle (like Rambo) just went too far.

As I read thru this and approached the end; I just wanted the end to come.

This book is the epic conclusion to the Chiveis Trilogy and if you haven't read the first two books in the series, I would highly recommend doing so before picking this one up. It's like reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy and beginning with the Return of the King, you have to struggle a bit to understand it but you would enjoy it more to read it from the beginning to understand where our main characters Teofil and Anastasia are at during this leg of the story.

Overall, I really enjoy this genre of Christian books, much like those who enjoy The Chronicle of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings will enjoy this series as well from author Bryan M. Litfin. This book is based on a post-nuclear earth where everything has been destroyed. All modern technology is gone and the world is forced back into a medieval age where horses, swords and bows and arrow are required to survive. It's almost like it's before the world was created but it is based in the future. Teo and Ana are searching for information on the god, Deus, since very little information has been written on him. This is basically the God of our time, when they met with a man named Popa of Roma who has a version of the book known as the Old Testament but what is missing is the New Testament. However when this gets destroyed, a battle begins between those who want to keep that knowledge a secret and those who want to discover what they are trying to hide. In order to do that, they must figure out what was in the missing text and how that may impact the world they are trying to save.

I received The Kingdom by Bryan M. Litfin compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and have to say, I enjoyed this one more than the first two.
