Editorial Reviews

Stephen Fry (Black Adder, Jeeves & Wooster) returns as Peter Kingdom, a warm-hearted, well-respected solicitor who devotes his career to representing the oddball people in the small Norfolk town of Market Shipborough, England.

With cases of military sexism, mysterious crop circles, trespassing Druids, invasions of privacy and ill-behaved nobility, Market Shipborough is a veritable proving ground for all the trials of humanity. Against the striking beauty of the Norfolk landscape, cool-headed Peter Kingdom is the man to go to with any problem - legal or otherwise - in this alternately comical and moving series.

I've got all 3 Series (my lovely husband bought a region-free player for me so I could see Series 1 and early Doc Martin releases) and have watched them at least half dozen times already. Look for Oliver and James Phelps of Harry Potter fame to guest star as Karl Davies brothers in an episode.

I would highly recommend this Series to anyone. It is unbelievably good television. Excellent writing, the locations are breathtaking and dialogue is clear and (for the most part) easy to understand - there are a few guest stars with regional accents.

The cast is a dream to watch - quickly making it seem impossible we are not simply watching them live their lives. Each actor thoroughly inhabits the skin of the character; even those in the peripherals of the show (ie, Tony Slattery).

Give it a go, you will fall in love with Kingdom & Kingdom, et al.

I am addicted to this series about a soft spoken english country solicitor, living in a sea side town and the often comical and poignant challenges he faces as he deals with the country folk he has chosen to live with.

I have all three seasons of Kingdom, and I could not rate one as better then the others. They are all excellent. My only gripe with them, is that there wasn't a fourth.

Set in the fictional coastal town of Market Shipborough (you could almost believe the name was that of a real town!) Its the tale of a solicitor and his clients, and of course his family and their endless secrets and troubles. His sister's got emotional stability problems, (and she flaunts them), his brother faked his own death and seems to have the mob chasing him, while his clients never seem to need so much legal counsel as they do practical solutions to bizarre problems.

The residents of the town are colourful, quaint, and maybe just slightly mad, and yet still lovable. Its the sort of town where you would love to spend a day just meeting and greeting and possibly doing a little snooping, and wondering if you were still in the real world.

This is gentle British humour at its best and I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes to watch a show with a smile on his or her face.

The Kingdom series are truly pleasant to view. There is no violence or profanity, and the good guys are just ordinary people behaving in decent ways. The characters face ordinary problems, and usually win by just doing the right thing. My only complaint with the DVD's is that they are not subtitled or close captioned, which makes it harder for me to follow, as I am hearing impaired. That's why I didn't rate them a 5.

What a great series filled with quirky characters. A big mistake was made when this series was cancelled.
A rare gem of a series with wholesome stories about everyday people - funny and touching, so missing on todays television shows.

Regretfully, the final episodes of a most gentle and entertaining series, Stephen Fry, with sublime temperment, in one of his finest, most whimsical roles as Peter Wisdom, small town attorney, and practitioner of justice and fairness. Excellent co-stars and supporting cast, beautiful locations and expert vidiography all make this series one not to be missed. Note that although Season (series) Two is also available (and just as good) you'll have to catch Season One on HULU or another source because of compatibility issues with the original release. Track it down - its definitely worth it.

Watched all three seasons, in order. Great characters, great actors, very funny twists and turns but the ending of the third season was a good news/ bad news deal. Good news- Peter is not dying, bad news is there are NO MORE episodes. ITV cancelled it without finishing the story line concerning Peter Kingdom's paternity! Stephen Fry does a fabulous job as do the supporting cast. For fans of other English productions, Celia Imrie is a familiar face. She is Peter Kingdom's secretary with her own uniques system for filing as well as few personal issues of her own.

Overall a fine ensemble piece that ended a few episodes too soon. ITV cancelled it after season 3 ended while the show was on hiatus so even the actors had no say in the decision. Boo Hiss!

Stephen Fry is at his best in this series. My wife and I have both enjoyed this series which is best watched from the beginning, that is from Series One. There is a underlying story about the local law firm which continues throughout the series with at least a couple of complete minor stories told in each episode. This series takes us into a small town in the UK which is filled with quirky likeable characters which bring light drama and humor to the viewer. The series ends with Series Three, but it would have been nice to see a little more of the world it presented, but sometimes good things must end.
