The first story “Indebted” had me hooked on this series. It’s darkness with a penlight that gets brighter and brighter as you go on the journey. The books in the series must be read in their order for the reader to get the most out each story. In fact, “Inevitable” is part II of “indebted”, the stories of Bree and Zerro. Characters: Devon and Jared are introduced to the reader in “Indebted”. “Invincible” is Devon and Tegan’s story and “Injustice” is Jared and Isabella’s story. “Infringed” is a short story about Bree and Zerro that the author should not have bothered to write. I would rate that tale a zero. I also didn’t enjoy “Invincible”. It was my first disappointment in the series. Devon and Tegan were in a cycle of whining that got on my nerves. Additionally, it demeaned Devon’s swag. Devon is supposed to the child of drug dealers who leaves his small town to join the FBI where he becomes masterful in his trade. Yet, he made one amateur mistake after another in “Invincible”. I kept rolling my eyes in disbelief throughout the read. The big showdown moments were not surprising but it felt like the author thought herself shocking or surprising her readers with climatic scenes. I knew how the characters would get out the mess and I knew very early in the read the identity of the boss behind Tegan’s mess. The discovery of the FBI boss’ hand in Devon and Tegan’s lives was a very pleasant blindside. Don’t get me started with the countless times that I thought “you got to be kidding me” and “give me a break” with Tegan’s storyline. Yet I rated this box set with 4 stars because “Indebted”, “Inevitable” hit it out of the park while “Injustice” was a bases loaded play. Those stories make the series a must read. The stories are not cut from the same formula.Read more ›

Great series with lots of twists and turns and surprises. Really enjoy reading a dark read like this especially when it takes so many unexpected turns and reveals unknown motives. Also the individual love stories were so hot. It was also nice to get the five book series altogether rather than waiting for each one to come out. Good series that will keep you wanting to turn page quickly to see what comes next. Totally recommend.

I just couldn't continue on with this. There was just nothing here that truly grabbed me, or managed to hold my attention for long with these stories or characters.

I'm honestly surprised I read for as long as I did. I finally decided to just stop in the middle of the 3rd book of this 5 volume book series.

So I don't see myself returning here.

I'm just glad this set only cost me $1.00.

Basically I wasn't feeling the simpleton approach here. Given the circumstances & what is occurring with these people. How dangerous things are, they were resolved in a very easy way. Even with how things played out. This approach/resolution just didn't match the circumstances & reasons of why we're witnessing certain things. I just couldn't believe it, nor could I get behind it.

And the fact that the characters didn't really inspire me to care about them or their plights, didn't help either.

There are way too many implausible plot twists.

Giant, ugly spoiler ahead and this is only the first third of the book.

* The opening was very strong, a young boy's mother is killed and he hides from her killers in a secret compartment in his closet - Exciting
* Zero becomes a mafia king who kills numerous people and is a loan shark - OK
* Zero tries to collect on a debt from Bree's father, a farmer. She arrives for a home visit and is taken as debt repayment. - Unlikely timing but OK
* She has immediate sexual fantasies about the man she saw have her father beaten and took her as property. - As you do...
* Bree watches Zero kill a man - Oops, witness to a hit is not good, sloppy but OK.
* Zero takes Bree to a club, they go downstairs where he shoots a room full of people who haven't paid back their debts. When Bree is upset he strikes her and puts her in a dungeon where she remains for several days. - Imagine a college co-ed being upset over a mass murder, the bitch...
* Zero is upset with her for leaving the prison and brings her into a room where he throws a knife at her head. They have hot sex after he misses her ear. - As you do... Now she can check no longer a virgin off her list.
* Zero takes her to a mob meeting since the last get together worked so well. He kills the other mob boss after he finds out his mother was killed by FBI agents and suspects she might be FBI. She shoots a man to protect Zero and Zero is shot. - FBI kills innocent women and children?
* Zero's number one flunky says that Bree's story about him trying to rape her is a cover to hide the fact she's a "pig" and the FBI agent who killed his Mom is Bree's father.

I LOVED this series! There were so many different elements to this set. It was filled with so many WHAT! Moments that you are on the edge of your seat. This box set includes 4 full length novels and 1 novella.

Indebted: Alzerro is a mafia king hell bent on causing as much pain and destruction as he can. Hurt and angry over the murder of his mother when he was a child, he turns cold and mean. Bree is an innocent, after losing her mother the thought of losing her father also is too much to handle so she offers herself to pay the debt her father owes the mafia. Bree and Zerro have a love/hate thing from the start. Alzerro is used to people doing as he says when he says it no questions asked. Bree is feisty and strong willed and not going to bow down to Zerro, even if he kills her.

Inevitable: Bree is the first person to get past Alzerro Walls and hard exterior since his mother was murdered in front of him. The thought of losing the only person he's loved in years is unbearable. You really start to see the changes I'm Alzerro in this book, how much he loves and needs Bree in his life. The lengths they will both go to, to be together and to heal not only themselves but each other.

Invincible: In this book we switch to Devon and Tegan, they were high schools sweethearts and madly in love. They were going to have a future together, leave the small town they were raised in until life choices pull them apart. Years later Devon is an FBI agent and has tried to escape his past and forget about Tegan when a case (he's not supposed to be worhes ) takes him back to his home town and back to Tegan.

Injustice: This was my favorite book in the series. This is Jared and Isabella's book.
