Editorial Reviews

John Brown's Body - pioneer of the U.S. Reggae scene - returns with their first full-length studio album since 2008's Billboard #1 Reggae album release 'Amplify'! The creators of Future Roots sound who have sold over 70,000 records in their career, kept busy touring and resurfaced with the JBB IN DUB EP last fall, which was critically praised and geared up fans for the real return of the most progressive band in Reggae. 'Kings and Queens' features the trademark JBB elements: driving drum and bass, soaring horn lines, mind altering dub effects and production, and the unique vocals of the band's lead singer and songwriter Elliot Martin. Fan favorites like 'Shine Bright,' 'Empty Hands,' and 'Plantation' make their album debuts alongside brand new songs that stretch the boundaries of the genre ('Fall On Deep,' 'Starver') and touch on the band's own history and place within reggae ('Step inside,' 'Old John Brown'). The release is also available as an LP, the band's first ever, featuring 8 songs and a download card with the rest of the sequence.

After loving their 2008 release, this album was highly anticipated for me. The album is great and the first two songs are simply amazing, bringing a smile to my face not only as someone who has been a fan of the group for years, but also as someone who doesn't assume or take for granted that an album will be/is great just because it is the work of an artist one likes. Heavy horns, great vocals, catchy melodies and rhythms...not quite as good as Amplified in my opinion, but then again I've had years for that album to grow on me, which I'm sure Kings and Queens will too. Highly recommended to fans of reggae.

If there was ever a reggae album that convinced me the genre has evolved far more than anyone realizes, it'd be through Kings & Queens. I saw John Brown's Body live outside of Philadelphia early this summer (2016) and couldn't believe the sound. Great production, great variety in tracks, and an excellent focus. Don't be fooled, I'm no reggae expert, but if someone were to ask me what modern reggae or American reggae sounds like AND should sound like... I'd promptly point them to this album. If you like reggae at all or are interested in this album, most definitely give the song Dust Bowl a listen.

This release is as good or better than the other JBB releases. It gets you moving and still has the chilling riddiums one can expect from the band. Highly recommended and cannot wait until the next release. Thanks JBB for making my life worthwhile:).

JBB struck gold with this album! It's an absolute masterpiece! JBB's fresh organic sound has layers of deep roots reggae, dub, catchy melodies/arrangements and modern versions of classic reggae production/engineering techniques.
The band comes out of the gates swinging with "Step Inside" and keeps you on a musical journey right to the final song "Searchlight". Not common in many albums today. Once the album is over... the best thing to do is listen to it again!

JBB are masters of taking roots reggae and making it sound modern without the tacky over-produced elements that dominate mainstream reggae music. This album is good to the last drop. Buy it, then see them live. You won't regret it.

Just as good if not better than their previous releases. The only other album this compares to in my opinion is "Amplify." This album offers more horn section and a just a stronger overall sound. Talented band. Glad I saw 'em in Philly with SOJA. Otherwise I would have never purchased this album. If you're into this type of music this is a MUST HAVE for your library. FACT.

JBB is absolutely incredible - definitely one of the most underrated active reggae groups. I HIGHLY recommend not only this album, but all of their music.
Enjoy! (it will be hard not to)
